RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT

Studying pollinators at Central State University

Submitted photo

Nervah (Edy) Chérémond (second on the right with a net), research technician of Crop Protection Ecology from The Land Institute in Salina, Kan., recently visited Central State University for two and a half days to train agricultural research students on different methods of surveying and identifying pollinators. The workshop included both field and lab exercises. The students are working this summer with two research professors, Dr. Marcus Nagle and Dr. Hongmei Li-Byarlay. The workshop was organized within the Capacity Building Grant's “innovative use of a perennial flower species to improve crop and honey production while advancing the sustainability of agricultural production systems in Ohio,” funded by the National Institute of Food & Agriculture.

The participating students include Meyah Pillow, Heaven Strachan, Laverne Ambrister, Keara Clarke, and Camiyah Woods.
