Winter Illumination at the CSU Botanical Garden

Central State University's Seed to Bloom Botanical and Community Garden held its annual "Winter Illumination" ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 28 (the third since the Garden opened in 2020). CSU Interim President Alex Johnson, Ph.D., welcomed everyone and two members of a student jazz band performed, despite the freezing temperatures in late November. Fighting Discrimination in U.S. Farm Programs

LAND-GRANT PODCASTS

Extension Central podcast resumed Aug. 11 with a focus on "Rural Grocery Stores," presented as part of Extension's community and economic development program addressing stakeholders' needs where they live. Listen on SoundCloud or wherever you get your podcast.

Research Connection Podcast focuses on research activities and projects that are occupying the attention of CSU research faculty and students. You can listen on SoundCloud or on wcsufm.org.

Six Questions for the Researchers

CSU research professor, Marcus Nagle, Ph.D., (r), Ebony Murrell,Ph.D., of the Land Institute in Salina, Kan., and a team of researchers from both institutions completed planting silflower on a plot in Beavercreek Township in early September. They are testing integrating the perennial crop for increased production and honey yield. Read more. View a photo gallery.

Renita Porter is the new CSU Extension Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Program Leader effective Dec. 1. Her duties and responsibilities will include FCS program implementation throughout Ohio, plus managing a team of FCS and EFNEP (Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program) educators and nutrition coordinators. Renita has been with CSU Extension since 2017 and has held the following positions: FCS Educator and Interim FCS Program Leader.

Autumn Swanson has joined the CSU Extension Northwest Region as Regional Program Assistant. Autumn has a background in nonprofit administration and community organizing. She is an alumna of both Bowling Green State University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, earning a master's degree in public administration from the latter. A Fremont, Ohio, native, Autumn is past president and current board member of the Lima Allen County Neighborhoods in Partnership (LACNIP). CSU Extension's Northwest region encompasses 24 counties anchored by Toledo, Mansfield and Lima.
