MAGNOLIA IN BLOOM

Oh, the bloom of this Magnolia...that's beautiful!

Photos and write-up by Brian Kampman, vegetable and small fruit technician

Magnolia stellata 'Waterlily', commonly known as star magnolia, in the Central State University Seed to Bloom Botanical and Community Garden on the Wilberforce campus is simply beautiful. This is a deciduous, large shrub-to-small-tree that thrives in USDA hardiness zones 4-8. It blooms between March and April and can get a spread of 8-15 feet, and tolerates our Ohio clay soils. It grows well in full-sun to-part-shade. Star magnolia is native to Japan.
