Corey Higgs (foreground, left) was one of three CSU students that planted a variety of African heritage crops in the Botanical Garden under the guidance of Extension Associate Clare Thorn (right, center). After harvesting the crops last fall, the team germinated seeds this spring, waiting for transplantation this summer.

Central State University Student Researchers Lead African Heritage Crops Project 

 

Last summer (2023), Kamille Austin, Mariah Simmons, and Corey Higgs, under the leadership of Clare Thorn, Central State University Extension associate for Agriculture and Natural Resources, researched nearly two dozen African heritage crops, including three varieties of Okra, to test for growth sustainability and viability as marketable crops in the Midwest. Read more.

An unforgettable visit

In the News...CSU's SUSHI Project recognized

LAND-GRANT PODCASTS

Extension Central podcast resumed Aug. 11 with a focus on "Rural Grocery Stores," presented as part of Extension's community and economic development program addressing stakeholders' needs where they live. Listen on SoundCloud or wherever you get your podcast.

JOB SEEKERS

Bradley Wright is the new CSU Extension's Community and Economic Development (CED) Business Officer as of May 15.His duties and responsibilities include facilitation and management of financial resources for economic development throughout Ohio. Wright will also manage personnel administrative accounts, purchasing, and inventory control. Additionally, he will be performing financial forecasting and outlook reporting for Extension operations.


Bradley previously worked with JPMorgan Chase & Co. as a data domain architect and received his Master of Social and Applied Economics from Wright State University and his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Central State University.

Jacqueline Brown's name was drawn from a hat in Brian Kampman's "Container Gardening" class at Central State University-Xenia on Thursday, May 9, making the Xenia resident winner of the occasional evening class with about 18 attendees. Among other things, Kampman, CSU Extension's vegetable and small fruit crops technician, gave tips on how to fertilize crops in containers.
