CSU, OSU pledge to seek more research collaborations to address society’s challenges

During a full-day visit on Aug. 9, nearly two dozen Ohio State University faculty and staff met with their counterparts at Central State University’s main campus. The visit concluded with a pledge from the research directors of both institutions to pursue more collaborations aimed at addressing society’s challenges.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, (left below), associate research director of CSU’s 1890 Land-Grant Programs, and Dr. Gary Pierzynski, associate dean for OSU Research and Graduate Education, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, shared their thoughts in a Research Connection podcast interview. Watch for the full article on the visit in the Sept. 18 issue of CSU Land-Grant e-News. e-NEWSCSU LAND-GRANT e-NEWSCSU LAND-GRANT e-NEWS

"How can we increase our collaboration in research, Extension, or teaching...that will be our main theme...how we can increase our capacity and solve societal problems. -- Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, CSU

"We are going to follow up in terms of trying to get some CSU undergraduates to learn about opportunities and graduate education at Ohio State." -- Dr. Gary Pierzynski, OSU

Central State University Extension’s Health Education Mobile Unit (HEMU) logged some good mileage this past summer as it was sited at several well-attended community picnics and festivals in Montgomery, Greene and Clark counties.

In top picture below: CSU Extension staffers, including Dr. Joseph Frank, Health & Wellness Coordinator (foreground), Lindsay Andrews (far left), and Tanya North (far right) are joined by healthcare volunteers from the Nigerian community of Miami Valley at the July 20 Annual All-Nigeria Picnic in Englewood, Ohio.

In bottom picture below: The HEMU again was spotted at the two-day Dayton African American Cultural Festival 2024, held Aug. 17 and 18. Manning the HEMU for varying shifts for the two days were CSU Extension staffers James Keys, interim Southern Regional Extension Associate, Educators Donna Kuykendall, Collier Price, Lindsay Andrews, Dr. Joseph Frank, and Dr. Karen Mathews, director of CSU Health & Psychological Services. This time, CSU Extension was assisted by healthcare volunteers from the Nigerian Women Cultural Organization in the Dayton area. HEMU services typically include free wellness checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol.
