Communication Studies students volunteer at Palm Springs International Film Festival

Communication Studies students at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus recently had the opportunity to volunteer at the Palm Springs International Film Festival as part of a service learning class at the university. In addition to their volunteer duties, students were also assigned to watch and analyze films.

"Volunteering at the festival was such a great experience, and as a film buff, really opened my eyes to international cinema," said one student participant.

"My absolute favorite thing about the film festival was the Q & A and discussion. Engaging in discussions with fellow audience members fosters a sense of community and shared understanding," said another.

This is the first collaboration between CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Instructor Dr. Michael Salvador remarked that the students all had positive experiences and greatly enjoyed working with the volunteer staff and being immersed in the film festival events.

“It was a valuable learning experience for our students,” he said. “I hope this collaboration will continue and grow in the coming years.”
