Community Engagement Events

Over the last 30 days, we have gone out into your communities to engage with, and collect feedback on, the restructuring process of the CT CAN End Homelessness Campaign. These Community Engagement Events have helped to encourage collaboration, identify ways to fast track access to services, and provided great ideas for developing innovative and strategic solutions to prevent and solve homelessness in Connecticut!

Common Themes:

  • Strengthening Regional and Statewide Collaboration
  • Improving the Coordinated Entry Process
  • Enhancing Focus on Equity and Inclusion for All
  • Development & Expansion of Housing Focused Solutions
  • Workforce Development & Training (for staff AND participants)
  • Continued Community Engagement and Building Awareness in the Field
  • Data-Driven Decision Making & Accountability

In addition to the common themes above, we received an abundance of region-specific requests which we will elevate to the appropriate committees and subcommittees as we relaunch.

We were encouraged by the sentiment that the CT CAN End Homelessness Campaign has reignited hope in our system amidst this period of uncertainty. There is confidence that the CT Homeless Response System can work together collaboratively, improve system service delivery, and motivate housing-focused strategies.

Attendees stated they benefited from shared learning, improved coordination, and a stronger commitment to ending homelessness through equitable, person-centered, and data-driven approaches.

We thank all of our participants for your attendance and look forward to catalyzing these suggestions into action in the coming weeks and months.

Policy and Advocacy Update

This month, CT CAN End Homelessness advocates celebrated major accomplishments! In February, we showed up in force and in gold shirts at five public hearings—some stretching into the early hours. Hearings covered our $33.5 million ask, the Interagency Council on Homelessness, alternatives to ticketing, fines and arrests, Just Cause, Collateral Consequences, and more. Advocates submitted hundreds of pieces of written testimony, sharing their stories and making the case for the CT CAN End Homelessness 2025 Legislative Agenda.

We also celebrated the launch of the newly-formed, first ever End Homelessness Caucus! Chaired by Reps. Kadeem Roberts (D-137) and Laurie Sweet (D-91), the Caucus includes a bipartisan group of over thirty legislators committed to driving policy solutions. The goal is to explore policies that will tackle the complex factors contributing to homelessness, while working collaboratively with service providers and advocates to secure housing and life-changing services for those who are currently unhoused.

We are thrilled to have so much momentum, which is all due to the incredible energy and dedication of established and emerging advocates. We appreciate the leadership and advocacy of everyone who has participated so far this session – for more information or to get involved:
