RecycleCT School Grant RFP
Application deadline is
November 20, 2019 at 5:00pm.
The RecycleCT Foundation was created to target and promote the coordination and support of research and education activities and public information programs aimed at increasing the rate of recycling and reuse in Connecticut.
The goal of the School Grant program is to fund efforts in Connecticut K-12 schools that foster greater understanding of and promote action and engagement in:
* waste reduction
* reuse
* recycling
* composting and/or anaerobic digestion
Recycling, and more broadly sustainable materials management, preserves and conserves natural resources in Connecticut and beyond.
The RecycleCT School Grant program has one grant cycle per year.
Application deadline is November 20, 2019 at 5:00pm.
Applications will be reviewed at the December RecycleCT Board/Council meeting and decisions should be made by January 2020.

Resources from CT DEEP webpage
All schools in Connecticut are required by state law to recycle the
ten mandated items
if they generate those materials. If your school isn't recycling, use these resources to develop, improve and publicize your program and to comply with the law.

Willington Transfer Station
High five to the Willington Transfer Station in Connecticut, which has been participating in MRC's Bye Bye Mattress program for nearly a year and has recycled 353 units to date. Our program coordinators enjoy working with DPW Director Troy Sposato and his outstanding staff. Thank you for your continued partnership and support, Willington!!

Bed Bug Forum XI

The CT Council Against Bed Bugs (CCABB) has coordinated another program to help uncover the myths of bed bugs, the behavior of these insects, current research, pesicides and bed bug law and hoarding.
This program is specifically designed for licensed pesticide applicators, however, if you or your DPW staff are responsible for houses with hoarding or need a refresher for staff that collect, or move mattresses for recycling, you may find this of interest. To register: contact

RecyclingWorks
Practical Skills Compost Workshop

Needham, MA
RecyclingWorks in Massachusetts is hosting a no-cost Practical Skills Compost Workshop with emphasis on composting food materials. This half-day workshop will focus on operator competency in compost site management, in-field operations, and recipe development.
The workshop runs from 12:30pm-5:00pm and will be held at the Needham Free Public Library.
This workshop is geared towards:
• Food materials composting operations registered with MDAR or MassDEP
• Municipal or small-scale site operators either currently accepting or considering accepting food materials
• Other interested parties considering starting a compost site and accepting off-site food materials

Using Recycled Content Materials in Road & Infrastructure Projects - Workshop
April 15, 2020
Concord, New Hampshire
NERC and NEWMOA, in conjunction with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, the University of New Hampshire Technology Transfer Center, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Maine Department of Transportation, NRRA, and Maine Resource Recovery Association (MRRA), will be holding a day-long workshop in Concord, New Hampshire on April 15, 2020, to promote the use of recycled content in road and infrastructure projects.
The topics will include:
- Plastic drainage pipes
- Ground asphalt for roads
- Crumb rubber
- Glass/PGA
Presentations will focus on case studies and practical application strategies.

NERC's Sept. 11 Packaging Webinar Recording Now Available
This webinar,
U.S. Regulatory Strategies for Packaging
, which took place on September 11th, provided insights into the different approaches states are taking to address packaging.
Cole Rosengren, Senior Editor of Waste Dive, provided an overview of the different strategies states have proposed across the nation to deal with packaging and how industry groups have responded. Cole also focused in on the Northeast states' specific approaches and their status.
Heidi Sanborn, Executive Director of the National Stewardship Action Council, presented California’s proposed strategies and the implementation steps incorporated into their plan.
In addition, Sarah Lakeman, Sustainable Maine Project Director of the Natural Resources Council of Maine, presented the specifics of Maine’s proposed strategies and their intended outcomes.
