In partnership with Lifetime Arts, these 10 libraries will learn the foundational principles of the creative aging educational program model, including tools for implementing a program at their institution to serve the older adults in their communities. Programs will be developed and implemented in these pilot libraries

in the fall of 2023.

Isabel Medina Ayala was recently hired to become the first Librarians-In-Training intern! She moved here from Puerto Rico in 2017 and is a senior at Windsor High School. At the library, Isabel works part time assisting with the tutoring program as well as with special projects in lending, children’s, adult services, and the Makerspace.

CT Pages is a channel for sharing community engagement success stories by libraries with and for their communities. We partner with CT libraries to create and release short video conversations with the library staff who make things happen.

Join us to hear how New Haven is shaping its ACP Outreach grant project and about the work of our academic library caucus.

• Dean Mack, Economic Development Officer for the City of New Haven, and grant partners CFAL and the New Haven Free Public Libraries.

• Karen Tatarka and the academic librarians working on digital inclusion among their CT peers. 

This in-person training will consist of a workshop to prepare and empower public library staff to facilitate meaningful solar and space science programs for their patrons that build curiosity, knowledge, and inspiration.

Attendees will receive hands-on training on solar telescopes, low-cost methods of solar viewing, and interactive solar and space science programming designed for the library setting. Attendees will also be able to sign up for free solar eclipse glasses to distribute to their communities in advance of both eclipses!

How does one get started? 

This workshop is for directors or others who need to figure out what has been done in the past or could be done in the future in terms of applying for funds to mitigate the cost of your internet service. 

This session will provide an overview of the library capital planning process including developing action plans for new building projects, or the renovation of an existing building including feasibility studies, community needs assessment and funding to:

• Increase access to libraries and library services.
• Expand and maximize partnerships to drive community engagement.
• Increase organizational capacity, excellence, and resilience.
• Advance the Library as a diverse, equitable, and inclusive place for residents to work, visit, connect, and learn.
• Increase access to and quality of technology both within and outside of Library locations.

Join DLD and Connecticut Library directors who have completed successful and notable building projects for an overview and Q&A. 

Join Connecticut State Library consultant and trainer, Libby Post to explore the steps you can take to be prepared.

In this interactive class with law librarians Chris Roy (Connecticut Judicial Branch Law Libraries), Anne Rajotte (UConn Law Library), and Cheryl Halford (Connecticut Judicial Branch), you will gain confidence and insight by actively researching legal problems with partners or small groups using free legal resources on the Internet. Along the way you will get great tips from experienced law librarians that will get you on track to providing legal information and help you avoid giving legal advice.



There are no prerequisites for this session, but since this is a small group workshop, participants will need a computer with a camera and microphone so that they can research questions provided to them, share their results, and ask questions throughout the class.

In this workshop presented by National Digital Inclusion Alliance, participants will learn how to visualize social characteristics of the digital divide locally and regionally, using publicly available data and analysis tools, and then, how to gather local asset information.

Session outcomes include learning how to access public information records, how to use tools to visualize social characteristics of the digital divide in local communities, and how to design surveys for programmatic data collection.

There are 131 libraries in Connecticut participating in the requestIT CT program!

The Connecticut State Library Division of Library Development works with Bibliomation and Equinox to provide access to the fulfILLment interlibrary loan platform for public, school, and academic libraries.

The cost to participate in fulfILLment as part of the requestIT CT program is $350 per fiscal year and the term of use runs from July 1 - June 30 each year. 

Please note that fulfILLment training is available for your library upon request.

Get Ready for Summer Reading with Palace!

DLD purchases content that supports Summer Reading Programs. We aim to provide titles in eBook and eAudio format and in Spanish language when available. We also purchase multiple copies of titles, and many classics are available without loan restrictions. We have purchased the Nutmegs, Kid Governor titles, and lots of other titles from various Summer Reading lists.

During the month of April, DLD purchased a total of 304 items for eGO CT both platforms and there are now 25,814 items provided for free to public libraries. This includes 16,198 open access titles provided by Lyrasis in the Palace Bookshelf. A sampling of titles that are available in Palace can be found on our LibGuide.

DLD continues to work with Baker & Taylor to bring the eGO CT Community Share Program to Connecticut schools. This program allows DLD to deliver eBook and eAudio content, including Nutmeg, Charter Oak, Summer Reading, and All CT Reads titles from eGO CT directly to schools in Connecticut.

To date, we have 110 sites that are active in the program and over 1,200 items have been purchased specifically for this program.
