New CT Pages!

Watch the new CT Pages and meet Gabbie Barnes, Wilson Branch Manager, and Cailey Klasson, Librarian from the Windsor Public Library, who share the experience of creating and launching the Librarians-In-Training (LIT) program.

Funded by allocating their borrowIT CT reimbursements, this paid internship program runs from October-May and is aimed at developing a more diverse workforce by hiring young adults who might not otherwise consider pursuing library science as a career.

Isabel Medina Ayala was recently hired to become the first Librarians-In-Training intern! She moved here from Puerto Rico in 2017 and is a senior at Windsor High School. At the library, Isabel works part time assisting with the tutoring program as well as with special projects in lending, children’s, adult services, and the Makerspace.

CT Pages is a channel for sharing community engagement success stories by libraries with and for their communities. We partner with CT libraries to create and release short video conversations with the library staff who make things happen.

Do you have a creative program, service, activity, partnership, or project that you want to share with your library neighbors? We are always seeking submissions for consideration – Submit your idea!

Looking for an engaging book discussion set to offer patrons this summer? Try All CT Reads!

Hands-On Legal Reference for Public Librarians (Virtual)

Thursday, June 29

9:00 am-noon | Register

Does the thought of handling a patron’s legal questions cause you to feel uneasy?

Wouldn’t it be great to have someone coaching you on what to do?

A graphic containing legal elements such as a scale, gavel and law books. The text reads "Legal Reference for Public Librarians."

In this interactive class with law librarians Chris Roy (Connecticut Judicial Branch Law Libraries), Anne Rajotte (UConn Law Library), and Cheryl Halford (Connecticut Judicial Branch), you will gain confidence and insight by actively researching legal problems with partners or small groups using free legal resources on the Internet. Along the way you will get great tips from experienced law librarians that will get you on track to providing legal information and help you avoid giving legal advice.

There are no prerequisites for this session, but since this is a small group workshop, participants will need a computer with a camera and microphone so that they can research questions provided to them, share their results, and ask questions throughout the class.
