Pavement Management Boot Camp

Paving the Way to a Successful Maintenance Program

A CT ROAD SCHOLAR PROGRAM ELECTIVE WORKSHOP

Towns are faced with difficult decisions on how to best maintain their most valuable asset; their roadway network. Tough winters, utility companies, public perception and political bias make it nearly impossible for decision-makers to step back and look at the big picture when deciding which roadways to prioritize for repairs. This one-day training program has been designed to step participants through the process of what a pavement management program can do to help make these decisions and how a program is developed. Participants will move step by step from setting up a roadway database to forecasting roadway conditions for years to come and everything in between. You will get the opportunity to rate roadways in the field and ask questions of experienced pavement inspectors.

Who Should Attend

This program is designed for those responsible for assessing the condition of their roadways and making maintenance decisions.

Highway Superintendents, Foremen, engineering staff and Public Works Directors are encouraged to attend.

Course Instructors

Conrad Leger is the Asset Management Coordinator for Beta Group and has several years of experience in asset management, including assessing and costing roadway projects.

Art Baker is a Regional Manager at Indus Inc., and has over 19 years of experience in municipal public works management. Art is passionate about pavement preservation and applying its concepts to municipal budgets to maximize the useful life of pavement while reducing life cycle costs.

Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:

Understand how to select a pavement management program and what elements are necessary for success;

Understand how to inspect the condition of roadways;

Identify distresses and assess condition levels of a roadway;

Discuss how to prioritize roadway repairs.
