Rigging, Hoisting and Equipment Transport

A CT ROAD MASTER PROGRAM ELECTIVE WORKSHOP

This program provides training on rigging equipment for material handling and the transport of heavy equipment. Topics include safe rigging practices, calculating loads, chain and sling inspections, working load limits of rigging, safe hoisting operations, standard hand signals and environmental considerations. Transporting large equipment and construction materials will also be discussed and demonstrated.

Who Should Attend

This class is designed for crewmen and supervisors involved in construction projects where loads are being suspended and moved using chains and slings and those who are responsible for the transport of equipment and materials to the job site. Highway

Superintendents and Crew Leaders are also encouraged to attend.

This class includes an outside equipment demonstration. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for weather conditions .

Course Instructor

Bill Eyberse is the Lead Instructor of Signal 54 Training and has been teaching for the T2 Center since 2002. Bill has over 30 years of experience in transportation. He conducts training across the region on operational safety and winter maintenance topics.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:

Discuss OSHA Standard 1926.1400 and how it applies to highway maintenance operations.

Describe best practices and common hazards associated with loading and unloading equipment from a trailer.

Demonstrate safe rigging practices and proper hand signals.
