Module Five: HR Management & Performance Evaluations

A CT TRANSPORTATION LEADERSHIP PROGRAM REQUIRED WORKSHOP

This module will focus on managing your human resources; including handling issues that arise, documenting progress and using performance evaluations as a development tool in the growth of your staff and your department. We will specifically address giving evaluations, progressive discipline and the importance of training and record keeping. We will discuss real world issues and work together to come up with solutions. Special attention will be paid to working in a union environment and handling political intricacies of municipal government.

Course Instructors

Joshua A. Hawks-Ladds, Attorney at Law, Pullman & Comley, LLC Attorneys.

Jan Devendorf, Human Resources Specialist for the Town of Manchester. Jan has over 25 years of experience as a municipal human resources specialist.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:

Understand the importance of both informal and formal evaluations.

Understand the importance of job descriptions and personnel polices.

Discuss the changes to the law relating to background screening and employment applications.

Recognize employment issues and identify ways to address them.

Discuss those employment laws that frame the employer/employee relationship.
