ACCC® Conductor Update: November 2017 |
HOPS Croatia Completes 3rd ACCC Conductor Installation
Last month Croatian transmission system operator HOPS energized 191.6 mm^2 (378 kcmil) Rovinj size ACCC conductor on the 110 kV Ernestinovo-Osijek 1/2 Line in Northeast Croatia.
The 3.1 km project was reconductored during the last week of September, with CTC Global's field supervisor, Bill Percy present throughout the conductor installation. Prior to the installation, all crew members attended a theoretical and practical ACCC installation training course.

Irkutsk Energo completes ACCC Conductor Installation in Siberia
Supported by the construction firm Usole VSEM Cable, Irkutsk Energo, Electrical Grids of Angarsk Subdivision completed the reconductoring of the 110kV line Power Station 10 of Irkutsk - Meget - Novolenino near the town of Irkutsk next to Angarsk in Siberia, Russia to increase line capacity.
Irkutsk Energo selected 367.4 mm^2 (725 kcmil) ACCC Amsterdam size conductor to upgrade their 8.5 kilometer line originally built in 1956. The line consisted of 18 dead end towers and 22 mid span towers. Unkomtech Holding, KirsCable factory supplied 44.7 kilometers of ACCC conductor to complete the project. Burndy and PLP Belos supplied ancillary hardware. CTC Global's Master Installer, Sergey Salnikov provided training and installation support.
The contractor used TESMEC #ARS 510; #FRS 403; and #800 equipment to help with the installation which included substantial swamp crossings. According to the local residents, the area was a forest when the line was first constructed. It has transformed into a giant swamp aparently due to climate change.
The installation began in early April and was completed at the end of September and recently energized. To maneuver through the swamp it was necessary to build wooden bridges to be able to move equipment and deliver tools. This project represents the 4th ACCC installation in Siberia.

CTC Global Announces New ACCC® Conductor Core Production Facility in Indonesia
CTC Global announced that its joint venture, PT Composite Core Indonesia "CCI" has opened a new ACCC® conductor core manufacturing plant located in Bekasi, Jawa Barat, just outside of Jakarta, Indonesia.
The new facility is ISO 9001-2015 certified, manufactures under license from CTC Global Corporation and serves authorized ACCC conductor manufacturing partners in Southeast Asia.
Earlier this month the new CCI facility held its grand opening to showcase its capabilities to its customers, stakeholders and other invited guests. The facility's production equipment, tooling, processing methods and quality assurance procedures were designed, developed and delivered to the new facility by CTC Global. Over the past few months, CTC Global and its partners recruited, trained and certified CCI team members to supervise, and operate the production process and to perform the required suite of rigorous product quality tests.
J.D. Sitton, CTC Global's Chief Executive Officer, stated "My colleagues and I are very proud of the accomplishments of the CCI team and we are pleased with the support expressed by our partners and customers." John Mansfield, CCI's President Director added: "CCI's facility and team are well-positioned to accelerate the adoption of ACCC conductors and the growth of the high-performance conductor industry in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Our partners and customers have welcomed us warmly and we are looking forward to working with them closely in the years ahead."

CTC Global Wins Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Mercury Cable & Related Entities
CTC Global Corporation won its patent infringement suit against Mercury Cable & Energy, and related individuals and entities ("Mercury"). The lawsuit was initially filed on March 3, 2009 in the UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA SOUTHERN DIVISION (case number SACV 09-cv-00261 DOC-E).
The Court entered judgment that Mercury infringed CTC's U.S. Patent No. 7,368,162 and U.S. Patent No. 7,211,319 by making, selling, offering to sell, importing, supplying components or substantial portions of components for, or testing HVCRC (a composite carbon core-based high voltage conductor), or causing others to make, sell, offer to sell, import, supply components or substantial portions of components for, or test HVCRC.
Further, the judgment confirmed that CTC Global's U.S. Patent No. 7,368,162 and U.S. Patent No. 7,211,319 are valid and enforceable, and that CTC did not commit fraud in procuring or seeking enforcement of these patents.
In addition, a permanent injunction was entered by the U.S. District Court requiring that Mercury, as well as its respective officers, agents, servants, employees and all persons who are in active concert or participation with them, immediately cease from infringing or causing others to infringe these patents.
J.D. Sitton, CTC Global's Chief Executive Officer stated: "CTC Global invested heavily to develop, test, prove and commercialize its patented ACCC core and ACCC conductor. Responsible transmission utilities around the world recognize the capability and reliability of these amazing products. My colleagues and I are gratified that Mercury has finally been held accountable for its actions."
Mr. Sitton added "CTC is focused on developing and manufacturing excellent products for, and providing industry-leading technical and field support to its utility and industrial customers. This outcome helps to ensure that innovation will continue to flourish at our company and in our industry.
*ACCC is a Registered Trademark of CTC Global Corporation and ACCC Conductor Patents have been issued in key markets, worldwide.

CTC Global attends Network Development 2017 Event in Dietikon, Switzerland
As part of its activities in Europe, CTC Global attended the ETG Symposium -
Network Development Conference - held this year in Dietikon, Switzerland on November 8th, 2017 which was organized by
Electrosuisse. The one-day conference covered a wide range of issues from regulatory, through asset management to line resonance analysis.
"We received a very warm and friendly welcome at this event," advised Peter Hughes, CTC Global's Vice President North Europe. "We also learned a lot, particularly around the tight physical and emission restraints imposed in new-line and reconductoring projects on the
Swissgrid network. The concept of ACCC composite-cored conductor is relatively new to the Swiss market, so we were grateful for the opportunity to move the dialogue forward."
Switzerland presents an interesting opportunity to
CTC Global. "ACCC is very well-suited to future grid developments, particularly resulting from its exceptional low-sag properties, especially under ice-loading conditions" added Hughes. "We greatly look forward to further dialogue with the key stakeholders in Switzerland to identify where we can support them with their grid development plans. We will definitely participate in this very worthwhile event again."

ACCC® Conductor Receives 3rd Party Certification for Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emission Reduction Credits
CTC Global ACCC conductor is the first electric transmission conductor in history to earn SCS certification for CO2 emission reductions resulting from improved energy efficiency.
SCS Global Services (SCS) verified that ACCC conductor reduces CO2 emissions associated with transmission line losses by 27 to 31 percent under certain design conditions compared to conventional steel reinforced ACSR conductors, the 100-year old technology currently used in most electric transmission and distribution power lines.

Free Engineering Software
CTC Global created CCP software to help system planners and engineers compare the ampacity, line losses, thermal and ice load sag, and economic aspects of nearly any conductor type and size, so the numerous advantages of the ACCC conductor can be fully realized.
The user simply selects the conductor types and sizes from drop down menus and enters the appropriate values & assumptions highlighted in the yellow boxes. The program is fully functional and uses standard industry formulas (such as IEEE 738-2006). Outputs are readily comparable to Sag10®, PLS CADD™ and other similar programs.
