ACCC® Conductor Update: February 2020
Quick Update: In the last 90 days, 40  ACCC ® Conductor Installations have been completed and energized.  There are currently 42 active ACCC Conductor installations with start dates for  21  additional installations scheduled.  Surprised? Don't be. ACCC Conductor offers the ability to improve the efficiency, capacity, reliability and resilience of the power grid, worldwide.
ACCC Conductor is currently reducing CO 2 emissions by over 2.6 million metric tons per year - the equivalent of removing 600,000 cars from the road
Sterlite Power Completes 400 kV ACCC ® Ganga River Crossing

Sterlite Power Grid Ventures used 291.1 mm^2 ACCC ® ULS Ganga size conductor (in quad bundle configuration) on a new 400 kV double circuit line to span a 1,090 meter wide Ganga River crossing in Biharsrif, Lakhisdarai, India which enabled the North Eastern and Eastern Grids to connect with the National Grid.

The ACCC Ganga size conductor used CTC Global's 10.54 mm ULS core that offers greater strength, lighter weight and reduced sag to help reduce structural costs and circumvent the need to place an additional structure in the center of the river. The ACCC ULS Ganga Conductor was mounted on 80 and 95 meter structures. Sterlite manufactured the ACCC Conductor and Tag Corporation provided the ACCC Hardware.

Jordan National Electric Power Corporation Completes 132 kV ACCC ® Upgrade

Supported by engineering firm Transrail Lighting Limited, India, and Arabian Romanian Electromechanical Contracting Company, Jordan, National Electric Power Corporation completed their first ACCC ® Conductor installation in Samra, Jordan. The 2.5 kilometer double circuit project used 553.4 mm^2 Hamburg size ACCC Conductor to replace the existing AAAC Yew size conductor first installed in 2010. The ACCC Conductor used for this project was manufactured by Midal Cables, Bahrain, to increase the capacity of the 132 kV transmission line connecting the Samra and Zarqa substations using the existing steel lattice structures. The terrain was hilly with spans of ~300 meters.

The project was supported by CTC Global’s Regional Service Manager Mr. Sampangi & ACCC Master installer Mr. Vasanthakumar.
CTC Global Participates at ERCOT Market Summit

CTC Global was a sponsor and panel participant at the ERCOT Market Summit, February 25-27 in Austin, Texas. David Townley, Director of Public Policy for CTC Global, also served as a moderator for DEALING WITH THE IMPACTS OF TRANSMISSION CONGESTION panel. The excellent panelists engaged in a lively discussion representing the perspectives of the transmission providers and the renewable energy developer/owner/operators regarding the impact of increasing transmission constraints (and generation curtailments).

A consensus of the panelists was that while many thing are extraordinary in the ERCOT market, transmission planning might be “broken.” Later in the Summit, David served as a panelist in the EXPANDING TRANSMISSION CAPACITY: PROSPECTS FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY panel.

David was able to summarize and provide examples of the superb opportunity in Texas to reconductor existing transmission structures with ACCC Conductor to quickly gain up to 2X operating and emergency capacity on existing transmission corridors, and to substantially reduce line losses by 25% to 40% (reducing electric consumer energy costs, reducing CO2 emissions, and “freeing up” generating capacity that was just running to “heat the air” [line losses]).
CTC Global Participates at the Annual NASEO & NARUC Meetings in Washington DC

In early February, the National Association of State Energy Officers (NASEO) held their 2020 Energy Policy Outlook Conference & Innovation Summit. This year’s focus was on Energy Resilience, Infrastructure and Innovation. CTC Global continued to talk with state energy officers about the potential for a T&D Energy Efficiency Policy that could reduce T&D system losses saving substantial energy costs for electric customers, reducing CO 2 emissions, and reducing the amount of generating plant required to reliably serve the electric load.

A couple of days later and a few blocks away, CTC Global participated in the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Winter Policy Summit. Continuing with the message of T&D Energy Efficiency Policy and its substantial benefits for electric customers, utilities, and the states, CTC Global talked with several Commissioners, Commission staff, and other NARUC participants.

During the conference, CTC Global was invited to present the T&D Energy Efficiency Policy to the Organization of PJM States, Inc. (OPSI) members. OPSI consists of 13 states plus DC that in-whole or in-part participate in the PJM organized electric market. That presentation, provided to the OPSI members beforehand, was given Friday, February 28 th by David Townley, Director of Public Policy for CTC Global. Conference participants had several follow-up questions that were discussed on the call. David offered to help members start the conversation within their state or to participate in a state process as the Commissioners desired .
CTC Global's Conductor Comparison Program CCP™ Software is Available Online

CTC Global is pleased to announce that our highly regarded Conductor Comparison Program (CCP™) software is now available online. The new web-based version has all the features found in the Excel version, which has been replaced and will no longer be supported. The new version is designed to make it easier to use, and it also has some new features. Having CCP online will make it easier to keep it up-to-date with new wire files and other data, and to add improvements as they are made. Users will always know they have the current version every time they log in. CCP is also compatible with tablets.

Registration to use CCP requires only a valid email address and password. Users may also use CCP as a guest however, saving and export features are only available to registered users.

Thank you for using our CCP. We welcome your feedback. For technical support, please contact [email protected]
