CDE

Career Education Center, 2021-2022: The CEC has notified students and high school counselors of placement in CEC classes for the 2021-2022 school year. The CEC has re-opened the registration portal for classes with available seats. Classes are filled weekly based on student requests, and the final deadline for registration is August 1. Manufacturing teaches students about the design and creation of goods along with engineering and coding skills. Advanced Naval Technologies introduces students to local careers at Naval Base Ventura County. Space is available in each. UC A-G: A reminder the deadline for phase two of the UC course submission period is July 31. Work-Based Learning Measures in the College/Career Indicator: A new CDE web page lists and defines current CCI work-based learning measures. This page also identifies potential new career measures being collected for the first time in CALPADS in 2020–21. Visit and bookmark this new site: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/cm/workbasedcci.asp. AME Leadership Institute: Registration is still open for this annual teacher PD event taking place virtually June 21-23. Learn more here. Leadership Development Institute for CTE Leaders: This CDE supported leadership training is designed to develop leaders in CTE. Applications are due June 30. Event Spotlight: Hackathon by the Sea

Our annual Hackathon by the Sea was a huge success. Students from around the county competed in this first ever virtual event on May 21-22, 2021. Read more here about how our Navy partners collaborated to provide this opportunity. Are you interested in helping to plan our next Hackathon? We are seeking district partners to be involved in this annual event. We hope to offer a month-long Hacktoberfest activity culminating in a single day in-person event. Please email jsapp@vcoe.org to let us know you are interested.

STEM Pipeline - Updates

SeaGlide: Thank you to teachers who applied to participate in the annual SeaGlide training. We are in the process of notifying teachers selected to participate. The SeaGlide teacher training is set for July 27, 28, and 29, 2021. Seaglide is an autonomous underwater glider project for high school students culminating in a spring competition. SeaGlide kits will be provided to participating teachers, and the Navy is planning to offer teacher stipends.

FIRST Robotics Funding Opportunity: Thanks to all who joined our FIRST Robotics spring webinars. Navy partners are processing applications for grant funding and mentors for the 2021-2022 school year. Recipients will be notified mid-July. We project all teams will receive some form of funding with additional awards for FIRST Class Packs. Questions?
