The Aviation program at the Career Education Center (CEC) has an exciting new offering for the fall of 2021. For the first time the CEC Aviation course is combined with the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) course, preparing students to fly unmanned drone aircraft as well as prepare for the ground pilot license. This unique class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays this fall with Mondays focusing on drone flight technology and Wednesdays focusing on private pilot preparation. Aviation teacher and private pilot Robin Sullivan explains the hands on course covers a wide range of topics necessary for getting into the Aviation industry at a variety of entry points. Examples of topics covered in the class include aerodynamics, flight planning, navigation, aviation weather, and air traffic control.
Once students satisfactorily complete the Aviation course at the CEC, they may test for the FAA Remote Pilot License as well as be recommended to sit for the FAA Private Pilot knowledge test and/or continue their studies in aviation/drone technology at flight schools or aeronautical universities. Industry demand is strong for skilled employees to fly drones and planes and also to perform a variety of roles in airport management. This new combined Aviation course offered at the CEC is a perfect fit for many students in Ventura County due to the abundance of local airports and technology companies, local access to further training options, a high rate of pay, and an industry that many find enjoyable and exhilarating.
