Christ the King School Newsletter - January 15, 2019
Dear Christ the King Families,

Today we acknowledge Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday, legacy, imprint in our lives, awesome spirit, wisdom, and grace in promoting non-violent activism and leading the civil rights movement with dignity, strong intentions of the heart, and peaceful resolve. As we look back on Dr. King’s incredible journey here on earth, we cannot deny the impact of his truthful message. Below is a powerful prayer by Dr. King as revealed in a collection of prayers titled, Thou Dear God: Prayers that Open Hearts and Spirits (edited by Lewis V. Baldwin, Beacon Press, 2012).

O God, we thank you for the lives of great saints and prophets in the past, who have revealed to us that we can stand up amid the problems and difficulties and trials of life and not give in. We thank you for our fore-parents, who've given us something in the midst of the darkness of exploitation and oppression to keep going. Grant that we will go on with the proper faith and the proper determination of will, so that we will be able to make a creative contribution to this world. In the name and spirit of Jesus we pray.

Our week ahead holds great promise, as I look forward in anticipation to this Federal holiday and thank God and Dr. King for solving injustices in our world, and bringing us closer to the truth toward clearer/hopeful actions in our lives.

This past weekend, I was blessed to witness our students from Christ the King Catholic School and Religious Education present Walt Disney’s, The Little Mermaid at the Danville Village Theatre. Phyllis Gurnett and our students are to be commended for their creativity, theatrical gifts, and joyful hearts in acting and singing their hearts out to the roar of those in attendance.

I could not help but reflect on our eighth graders who took their high school exams this past weekend, as my time on the ranch early Saturday morning enveloped prayers, from the heart, for their futures. This week Katie Thornbury, Jeanne Bucci, and I are concentrating on completing high school recommendations for our eighth graders as well. Having taught eighth grade at the onset of my career, this year for each our students, and their families, is a special one!

Lastly, there will be no school this Friday as our faculty and staff will be attending a Diocesan professional development day at Saint Isidore School in Danville. Today, I am at a principal’s meeting at Apple’s innovative campus in Cupertino. I am really excited to learn about new educational devices and environmental factors that add mobility, ingenuity, and expediency to our Ed Tech futures.

Abundant blessings,
Joe Silveira

Choir Update
No Choir practice this Wednesday, January 16th!

Hello Parents of existing Choir members and those interested in joining Choir,

Just a quick reminder that  ALL  choir members  RE-REGISTER  for choir for the remainder of the year. This is also an opportunity to join choir if your student is interested. Unfortunately, we've had some students who have been attending choir who are not signed up and a few who are no longer a part of choir and I was never informed. This will allow me to update my roster and we will be implementing a new attendance policy in which your student will check-in to choir through their teacher as they leave their classroom for rehearsal.  All former registrations will be invalid beginning Wednesday, January 23rd . I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but this is for accountability and the safety of your student. If you do not register your student by  Monday, January 21st , I will have to send them to Club and I cannot have them participate in choir until the registration is complete. Please turn in the forms to the homeroom teacher (NOT THE MAIN OFFICE). Click here for new Registration Form.

Thank you for your cooperation!
