Christ the King School Newsletter - October 30, 2018
Dear Christ the King School Families,

This past week I felt a bit nomadic as I traveled with Father Paulson, Father Mario, and our parish staff to Saint Isidore Church for a Diocesan wide convocation that centered upon the importance of ministry in our lives and parish communities. A trip to Caritas revealed the beauty of our California landscape and Bay waters that continually reminds me -- California is truly the destination spot. We especially thank Alyssa Belz for leading our seventh graders on an outdoor journey of learning and discovery, and guiding them home safely and enriched.

Being with the eighth graders at the Lafayette Retreat Center reminded me of their importance in our lives as their futures shine brightly and give us hope and inspiration. Mr. Lejano led the retreat with passion, compassion, and great spiritual enrichment. Further, Ms. Thornbury led the group as well with her strong role-modelship and inventive ways lighting the way. In addition, a visit to Saint Stephen’s Parish revealed an architecturally designed church, only a stone's throw away, that is remarkable and aesthetically compelling.

Perhaps what stands out most was ending this past week at the Halloween Ice Cream Social. Seeing our students all dressed up and having a blast reminds me of the Americana traditions that have so defined our culture. Special thanks and gratitude to the chairs of this event, Kirsten Sawyer and Cris Branch. In addition, special thanks to Maddie Ostrander, Megan Lopoz, Mary Mullen, Julie Mullane, Leila Makhoul, Rholyn Jung and Keith Cormier, Anina & Billy Liyao, Denise Meyer, Mary King, Ksenia Smerechuk, & numerous 8th graders that helped to make this event happen and be so successful.

Today, our fourth graders took off to the beautiful San Francisco Solano De Sonoma Mission for their annual field trip…..such a rich curriculum and California history to study and follow. Also, we look forward to our fourth graders leading us, this Thursday morning, at the All Saints' Day mass a holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on November 1st. The day is dedicated to the saints of our Church. Further, our third graders will be leading us on Friday for the All Souls Day mass. Let us not forget tomorrow’s Halloween Celebration…..after morning assembly! :-) We will enjoy our annual Halloween Parade and student council leadership has prepared an awesome rally for our student body, too. Please be safe at home while trick or treating through your neighborhoods.

Lastly, the cool weather this morning beckons us to the awesome seasons of our lives. As we enjoy the changes of Fall may we lean toward Thanksgiving and the Advent Season with renewed peace and joy!

Abundant blessings,

Mr. Silveira
