Christ the King School Newsletter - September 18, 2018
Dear Christ the King School Families,

The Joy of Learning
I am constantly reminded, each day, how truly special our Christ the King School community is. Last week, I was honored to travel through each classroom witnessing learning firsthand. We are very blessed to have a committed and talented faculty and staff, and students who are open to the learning process. During my visits students were engaged in all aspects of learning…..from our youngest students diving into the curriculum through modeled reading/writing exercises that extended across the curriculum, to our middle grade students taking math assessments and reinforcing math facts and strands, and our middle schoolers acting out vocabulary, immersing into communicating in Spanish, music and the arts, and developing the aspects of expository reading and higher order/inferential reasoning. My journey’s observation produced solid learning outcomes and results at all levels. Today, Father Paulson and I and two visiting priests from Nebraska, Father Joseph and Father Abraham, spent time with our 5th grade group in their classroom. Lastly, tomorrow the seventh and eighth grade students are invited to a talk by Salesian Father Tom Uzhunnalil who endured 557 days in captivity with faith, hope and providence guiding his way. Father Tom will be celebrating early mass tomorrow for those in our community that can make it as well.

Let’s Get Ready to Run
Excitement is building for next week’s annual Walk-a-Jog-a-Thon! The FUNdraiser will take place on Tuesday, September 25th at 10:00am. The students have a great time participating in the kinesthetic and learned aspects that benefit from a healthy lifestyle. Thank you to those who have been working hard to raise donations, as mentioned this fundraiser raises money for Camp Caritas, our science program, garden awareness activities and various other projects and needs around our school that are benefited by all grades. A very special thank you to Heidi Nuti and numerous volunteers for their hard work, great spirit, and commitment in making this event such a huge success.

School Conferences
School Conferences will take place on Thursday, October 4th and Friday, October 5th. There will be NO school on the aforementioned dates, and CTK Club will be closed during conference days as well. Students in Grades 4-8 will attend the conference(s) with their parent(s). If you would like a conference with a non-homeroom teacher please e-mail that teacher directly. On Friday, September 21st, you will receive an email through Constant Contact with directions, and a link to sign up for your conference date and time.

Abundant blessings for a great week of learning,

Mr. Silveira
Principal

Walk-a-Jog-a-Thon
NEW! ONLINE PLEDGES: The Walk-a-Jog-a-Thon has exciting news, this year for the first time we are testing an online pledge option.  Click here to view our pilot website, 99Pledges, and view instructions for registering. We are hopeful that online pledging will make it easier for you to reach out to family, friends and co-workers who are interested in supporting the education of your child, no matter where they live.  Once you register, you will have access to share the link via email and/or social media.  The site also provides an instant confirmation and receipt, so it makes submitting your employer match even easier too.

Thank you for helping us try this new method, each student who is sponsored online (any amount) will receive tickets for an ice cream treat to be redeemed on the Tuesday of their choice, along with the prizes they have earned.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Sandy Wingard at  smwingard11@gmail.com

Please note: When registering remember to put your CHILD’S NAME as the participant, and the PARENT’S EMAIL as the listed email address. This way your child will earn a prize credit for all donations and you will receive an email notification for all pledges.

PRIZES
Last week we presented the (AWESOME) prizes to the students. Your child may receive pledges in person (using the Pledge and Prize Envelope that was sent home last week), online, and through company matches. Each time someone sponsors your child online, you will receive an update with the amount they contributed. Please add up the total pledges received and have your child select a prize or prizes accordingly.
