Seminar Series: Marketing Driven Systems Change

The focus of this seminar series is marketing and its impact on community and population health, with primary emphasis on how marketing methods can be ethically applied for systems change—collectively called, marketing-driven systems change. The goal is to provide a forum for informative and engaging conversations about marketing’s impact, with extra consideration for its immense potential for improving the systems in which people live, work, learn, and play. Participants will be introduced to social marketing as an approach for facilitating exchanges that provide something of value (i.e., something wanted or needed) to those who comprise a market and return something of value to the social marketer and to society. Also, participants will be introduced to system dynamics as an approach for understanding the systems underlying social problems and for identifying potential leverage points for systems change; and how it can be integrated with social marketing to facilitate systems change. Planned sessions introduce concepts such as ‘supply’ and ‘demand’ in the social marketing context; ‘provisioning systems’ as central to the types of consumer behavior of interest to marketing-driven systems change agents; and the ‘science of storytelling’ for its relevance to understanding historical system behavior but also bringing about systems change through a social marketing approach.

The Wednesday sessions are open to anyone. For location information, contact Brian Biroscak.
