CU Engage Weekly Newsletter

From Roudy

Tomorrow, from 1:00-2:30 on zoom, Ashley Grice will be facilitating a discussion on recent and deeper issues for CU Engage around equity. As she states in her email

“I think it will be beneficial for the session to focus on the Shared Equity Leadership report on Accountability. In light of recent and ongoing tensions within CU Engage, this direction might help provide insight and clarity for everyone on how to continue to move forward. While we shouldn't anticipate our entire time together to be spent debriefing Sabrina's email, I do think it will definitely be a focal point for engaging in the SEL's Accountability exercises.”

We also want to engage the whole center in conversations around the budget. That will take place on our collaboration day-- Friday April 19.

Dean Rosario-Ortiz will be presenting his budget plan at the SOE faculty meeting on Wednesday April 3, 1:30-3:30 in Kittredge Multipurpose Room A. I highly encourage all faculty and instructors to attend. You can join via zoom by emailing Grace at least a day before the meeting.

Though these conversations will be challenging, I look forward to navigating these issues together.

Be Part of the Education Dean Search Advisory Committee

Nominations due March 31

CU Boulder Provost Russell Moore is soliciting nominations for the School of Education’s dean search advisory committee, to be chaired by Katherine Eggert, vice chancellor and senior vice provost for academic planning and assessment. Nominations and self-nominations for the search committee are due by March 31.

“We are seeking search committee members who understand how higher education landscapes are changing, who are well-integrated into the school’s commitment to inclusion and equity, and who understand the importance of the school’s vitality and interconnectedness with the CU Boulder campus and the communities associated with it,” said Moore.

The search advisory committee will be composed of faculty, staff and students from the School of Education, along with representatives from other academic units. The committee’s role is to generate a strong pool of candidates and advise the provost of those candidates best qualified to meet the needs of the School of Education and the university.

The provost plans to seat the committee in mid-April and launch a national search during the summer with the goal of naming a new dean in early 2025.

How to Have Difficult Conversations with Friends and Loved Ones—including talking about Gaza and Israel

How do we have difficult conversations with people you care about, but may disagree with?

Our facilitators,  Jennifer Ho and Ami Dayan, believe it is possible to have productive conversations about controversial subjects, so long as all parties enter into the conversation with a sincere willingness to listen and learn rather than simply argue in order to persuade someone to their point of view.  Join us on March 27 (Wed, 6-7pm) to practice having hard conversations, including on the topic of Gaza and Israel.
