| | Learning Tree - Why Vaccines Are Vital | | |
10-11 AM in the Women's Building this Sunday, January 11
Attend this informative presentation on the importance of vaccines as vaccine requirements are being changed. Know someone unsure of vaccines? Invite them to address their questions and concerns.
Should I get vaccinated? Should I believe the protestations by Robert Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services? Should I believe the info I see online, on social media? What’s the real science behind vaccines? Bring your concerns, questions, and fears and learn about how vaccines have changed the course of history of infectious diseases and saved hundreds of millions of lives.
Joe Elm will share his 50 years of medical and scientific experience in The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Laboratory at Leahi Hospital; the Department of Tropical Medicine in the John A. Burns School of Medicine; and the Disease Investigation Branch at the Hawaii State Department of Health.

Statement Following Venezuela Takeover
Prompted by President Donald Trump's raid to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the leadership of the United Church of Christ and the Disciples of Christ (Christian Church) issued a joint statement condemning "all forms of government aggression." Read more about it and view the statement HERE.
| | |
In recent months, escalating military aggressions have been exercised by the current administration. Members of both the U.S. House and Senate have expressed concerns regarding the legitimacy of these attacks, as it is Congress and not the President who has the power to declare war.
The United Church of Christ Office of Public Policy and Advocacy encourages each one of us to take action and urge our members in Congress to take a stand against this dangerous executive overreach and block the unauthorized military activity in Venezuela.

Release Rogerio
We continue to pray for our dear community members Cheryl and Rogerio who are feeling the weight of inhumane immigration policies. Rogerio is still being detained in Honolulu. Cheryl is working with an attorney to keep Rogerio in Hawai‘i based on her needs as a U.S. citizen with permanent disabilities and Rogerio's role as husband and caregiver. A friend has started an online petition for Rogerio to remain here in Honolulu.

Pray that we would each carry the light of Epiphany forward!
Give thanks for the opportunity to stay informed about vaccines and for the protections that vaccines afford us and our communities.
Pray for those of us feeling overwhelmed by all that is happening in our world. May we find strength to continue to stay aware and engage, and hope to work for a better world.

Beware of Email Scams!
Scams come in many forms, whether it's someone impersonating church staff or even a member, or a stranger seeming to have a good deal for you on a special product or service. Please be cautious when checking emails! Know that church staff will never ask you to purchase something or give personal information by email. Often you can identify an email's authenticity by verifying the sender’s email address (CUC staff emails end with @centralunionchurch.org), but it's also possible for scammers to mimic email addresses. So if you receive any strange message at all and are ever in doubt, just delete it, don't reply or click on any links. You may call the church office (808-941-0957) to confirm.
