Going Deeper - Reflect on last Sunday's sermon

Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed Be Your Name

“Every time we bow our heads to pray 'Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,' we’re invited beyond ritual into a transformative way of life. Prayer isn’t merely recitation; it’s an anthem of belonging, a glimpse of heaven’s vision, and a call to embody holiness. When we pray 'Our,' we pledge ourselves to one another. When we pray 'who art in heaven,' we align our perspective with God’s justice and mercy. And when we pray 'hallowed be thy name,' we commit to making God’s character visible in the smallest corners of our day.” READ MORE

NEWS + ANNOUNCEMENTS + REMINDERS

UPDATE: Last week we shared about the BACPAC PROJECT. Please note that it is currently on hold and there will be no packing on October 18 as previously mentioned.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month hands hold up letters that spell THANK YOU

Pastor Appreciation Day

October is Pastor Appreciation Month and October 12 (second Sunday of October) is Pastor Appreciation Day. Although appreciation of our pastoral leaders should happen year-round, let's take this opportunity to express our gratitude and celebrate the many gifts our pastoral leaders bring to various ministry settings. Mahalo, Pastor Rushan! What other pastoral leaders do you know? Share some extra gratitude this month! Our Conference office shares some ideas for appreciation.

New Member Meeting

Interested in becoming a member of CUC? On Sunday, October 26 at 10 AM, between the 9 AM and 11 AM services, join Pastor Rushan in the Rewick Board Room (in the Admin Building) to learn more about church membership!

To RSVP, please email cuc@centralunionchurch.org (or reply to this email) by October 23 at 5 PM.

Join Pride Parade with CUC

Central Union, along with many other faith communities, will march in the Honolulu Pride Parade on Saturday, October 18 starting at 3 PM. This event is hosted annually by the Hawai‘i LGBT Legacy Foundation during LGBT History Month. At Central Union where “We Engage and Embrace ALL”, we believe in a God of extravagant love and welcome that extends to our LGBTQ+ siblings. Join us to share this love and proclaim that each person, whatever their sexual orientation and gender identity, is divinely created and beloved by God! If you'd like to join us, click the button to sign up and get more info!

If you can't be in the parade but are able to assist with transportation of passengers (carpooling) before/after the parade, please also Sign Up. This would be a GREAT help as parking will be very limited around the start and end points.

Order Your CUC Shirt

Deadline to order is tomorrow 10/10.

Look good while protecting yourself from the elements and representing CUC! Order your own Dri Fit, long-sleeve shirt with the CUC logo on the chest, "Love Never Faileth" on the back, and "Central Union" along the right arm sleeve. They come in Olive Drab Green in sizes XS-4XL and are $30 each. Order forms will be available at the Church Office and at worship services. Please submit with cash/check. Click HERE to download an order form to print and mail if you're unable to come to campus. Note: Shirts must be picked up on campus.

Mahalo for Giving Aloha!

If you donated to Central Union Church through Give Aloha at Foodland this past September, THANK YOU! There was a total of $4,536 donated. Please submit your donation receipt to the Church Office by October 10 to receive credit on your giving statement.

Estimate of Giving Cards

Mahalo to all those who have already turned in their Estimate of Giving (EOG) cards! If you haven't yet, please spend some time in prayer and consider what you are able to give in 2026 to support the ministry of our church.

Members should have received their EOG cards in the mail. They may be submitted to the church office. You may also complete it online if you prefer. Sharing your Estimate of Giving greatly helps our church to plan for the year ahead and live within our means while Dreaming God's Dream!

Order your holiday greens and support CUPS!

Support Central Union Church Preschool by ordering your Christmas trees, wreaths, and door charms through Habilitat. They will be available for pickup on December 6 at one of six locations around the island, including Central Union. Order by October 31!

Support CUPS Fall Fitness FUNdraiser

Central Union Preschool's 2025 Fall Fitness FUNdraiser will be on Friday, November 14, with the theme, "Together We Can"! This is the one and only annual fundraiser of the PTO which organizes ALL the events for the keiki, ‘ohana, and staff. The money raised also helps to fund the school yearbook, classroom supplies, playground equipment, and Staff Appreciation Day.

Can you or your company help CUPS exceed past fundraising efforts so the PTO can organize amazing school-wide events for our children?

Upcoming Faith Formation Opportunities

Save the date: Worship & Witness

On Sunday, November 23, 2025 Central Union Church will embody its call to be a church not confined by walls, but propelled by love. “The Church Has Left

the Building” is an opportunity to live our faith beyond the sanctuary. We’ll begin the day together in a combined worship service at 9 AM, then, like the early disciples sent out, we will scatter across our wider community to participate in acts of compassion, justice, and care. Please join us— all are welcome!

More Faith Formation for Fall 2025

Check out all the upcoming opportunities for faith formation this fall! We'll share more as events approach, but see for yourself what's coming up and plan to join us!

Volunteer in the Community

Volunteers Needed for Walk on Sunday

A representative of Susan G. Komen reached out to CUC in need of volunteers for their More Than Pink Walk this Sunday, October 12. It'll be a community-filled day, bringing awareness and raising funds for breast cancer, along with celebrating survivors, those living with MBC, and honoring those gone too soon. Volunteers can help as General Volunteers, Set-up/ Tear-down, Ecology, Course Monitors, and Greeters. Learn more, view time slots, and sign up!

The Ronald McDonald House Hawai‘i has a hospitality cart located on the 4th floor at the Kapi‘olani Medical Center next door to our church. The cart offers complimentary coffee, tea, water, snacks, toys, and activities for families on the NICU, PICU, and Pediatric Units. The cart is open Monday through Friday from 12:30-2:30 PM. They are in need of volunteers to help run the cart during the week for a 3-hour shift. If you are interested to help with this and learn more, CLICK HERE or email chantel@rmhchawaii.org.

Furniture Needed

Swapping out your home furniture? Got extras that can go to a new home? We are at the end of our renovation of the Central Union Windward campus cottage, which will ultimately house our new Associate Minister. Until then, we are planning on renting it out and need help furnishing it. If you have any items on the list that are in good condition and that you would be willing to donate for the cottage, please contact our COO at troy-tomita@centralunionchurch.org.

Readers Needed for Worship!

Worship is one of the heartbeats of our church – it is the work of the whole church community in praising God, hearing God's word to us and responding in faith. One way to help each other in our worship is by reading scripture and other parts of our service. It enhances our experience of worship when we can have different faces and voices leading worship.

If you are willing to read in a worship service, please join our pool of readers! Learn more and sign up by clicking HERE.

Beware of Email Scams!

Scams come in many forms, whether it's someone impersonating church staff or even a member, or a stranger seeming to have a good deal for you on a special product or service. Please be cautious when checking emails! Know that church staff will never ask you to purchase something or give personal information by email. Often you can identify an email's authenticity by verifying the sender’s email address (CUC staff emails end with @centralunionchurch.org), but it's also possible for scammers to mimic email addresses. So if you receive any strange message at all and are ever in doubt, just delete it, don't reply or click on any links. You may call the church office (808-941-0957) to confirm.
