CUE Chronicles: Quarterly Update

Empowering youth. Celebrating progress.

Highlights in Action: Event Recap

Rooted in Resilience, Powered by Possibility

At CUE, we believe in creating spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and inspired. This quarter, we’ve brought that mission to life through college tours, career training, and community healing events. From hands-on learning experiences to wellness-centered programming, we’ve continued to provide meaningful opportunities for youth and young adults to grow, connect, and thrive.

Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to this quarter.

Vilma’s Cutz for Kids

Art with a Purpose

In January, CUE partnered with A Friend Like Zeek, Autism with DJ, and Sensory E for another successful Vilma’s Cutz for Kids event at Spirited Play Labs in Berkeley. CUE hosted a sensory-friendly art space where youth could express themselves while waiting for free haircuts. Kids decorated postcards and wrote letters to their future selves—simple but powerful activities designed to reduce anxiety, promote calm, and encourage self-reflection.

The Propulsion Lab

Cal Maritime & CUE Project

The Propulsion Lab Is Off and Running! This quarter, CUE launched the Propulsion Lab, an exciting new program that gives youth hands-on exposure to careers in Biotechnology and Maritime industries—and it’s already making waves.

Participants started the journey at Cal Maritime’s Open House, where they explored the campus, stepped aboard the Golden Bear ship, and learned about college majors that lead to global careers on land and sea.

Next up was Solano Community College. At the Vacaville Center, extracted DNA from strawberries, and got a firsthand look at the world of biotech. They connected with faculty and graduate students, learning about real pathways from community college to biotech careers. At the Fairfield campus, they toured the horticulture and wastewater tech departments, uncovering careers that focus on sustainability and clean water systems.

We've also toured Matson Terminal at the Port of Oakland. Participants got a behind-the-scenes look at yard operations, toured a Matson vessel, and learned how shipping and logistics power our economy to keep global trade moving.

We returned to Cal Maritime for a deep dive into their Oceanography and International Business Logistics programs. Youth engaged in discussions with faculty and cadets to better understand educational pathways in science, logistics, and global trade.

And the journey isn’t over! Next stop: Myriad Genetics on May 22! Sign up: here

Solano Summer Resource Fair

Our 2025 Summer Resource Fair was a success! Held at Vallejo’s City Park, the fair brought together local programs and organizations offering internships, jobs, and summer programs. Youth and families were able to connect with resources, enjoy music, and explore opportunities all in one place. Thank you to all the vendors, volunteers, and families who made it such a meaningful day!

Easter Eggstravaganza with BGEG

CUE had a blast at the Easter Eggstravaganza hosted by the Boys & Girls Empowerment Group! We brought the creativity with our “Create Til Your Heart Desires” art station, where participants decorated their own tote bags, shoes, and even cups to collect their egg hunt treasures. It was a joyful day of creativity, connection, and community fun for youth and families.

Young Professionals

& Creatives Networking Event

CUE hosted a vibrant Networking Brunch designed for young professionals and creatives to connect, collaborate, and be inspired. This high-energy event brought together youth with diverse passions and goals, offering space to share experiences, build relationships, and explore career and creative pathways.

As a highlight, participants had the opportunity to pitch their ideas Shark Tank-style for a chance to win a $500 scholarship to support their personal or professional goals. From bold business concepts to community-focused initiatives, the room was filled with innovation, vision, and real-time feedback from local professionals.

Community Voices:

Solano County Listening Session

CUE co-hosted a powerful Listening Session alongside End Poverty In California (EPIC) and County Supervisor Cassandra James, focused on the question: How does poverty impact you and your community in Solano County?

This session invited youth, community members, funders, and local stakeholders to share personal experiences and solutions related to poverty, equity, and systemic change. The insights gathered will help inform future strategies aimed at creating stronger, more supportive systems for young people and families in Solano County.

Oakland Roots Soccer Game Outing

CUE’s Fostering Resilience youth program took a trip to Oakland for a fun and inspiring night at a professional Oakland Roots SC soccer game. The evening featured a high-energy matchup against Sacramento and a special halftime performance by Bay Area artist P-LO in celebration of AAPI Night. It was an unforgettable blend of sports, culture, and community pride—plus a great time cheering on Oakland with our youth!
