A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

January 17th, 2024

Dear Colleague,

We hope you had a restful holiday season.

Our 2024 in-person conference, Global Health Without Borders: Acting for Impact, is fast approaching. We have an outstanding series of sessions and speakers from around the world. Check out the agenda online and take advantage of our lowest registration (before Jan 31) and hotel room rates at www.cugh2024.org. Please note that the conference sessions begin on March 7, 430 pm. Also, don’t forget to bring your colleagues, register and attend the dynamic, free half-day satellite sessions on March 7. All are welcome! You can also attend the UC Global Health Day at UCLA in the morning of March 7. Information is below.

Our second, Virtual Global Health Week took place October 30 to November 3, 2023. The eighteen free, open access, online workshops covering an array of global health challenges can be accessed in the link below.  Please share them widely.

In this newsletter you will see the winners of our 2024 Leadership Awards. This is an outstanding group of individuals who are making consequential improvements to the health of people and that of our planet. Congratulations to the awardees.

As many of you know, our friend and colleague, Prof. Alfred Mteta, who was the vice Chair of AFREhealth, and a CUGH board member, passed away late last year. In his honor we have created a bursary that will enable the president of AFREhealth or their representative to attend our annual conference. We hope this will stand as an ongoing reminder of his efforts to improve health outcomes in Tanzania and across the African continent.

Finally, please donate to our fundraiser that supports travel bursaries for LMIC students or young researchers presenting at CUGH2024. Donate here:

https://www.cugh.org/donate. Donations are tax deductible in the US.

Please forward this newsletter to your networks so others can benefit from it.

Best wishes,

Keith Martin, MD, PC
Executive Director
