A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

September 13, 2024

Dear Colleague,

We hope you had a nice summer (if you are in the Northern Hemisphere) or are enjoying the beginning of spring if you live below the equator.

This shortened newsletter contains several important events CUGH has developed with our members and partners. PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WIDELY AND INVITE COLLEAGUES TO ATTEND THESE EVENTS.

On Sept 17, 1pm EST we are co-hosting an online symposium with the US State Dept. The broad objective of this session is to assist in the development of stronger ties between US academic institutions and the US State Dept. to improve global health security and reduce the burden of HIV.

From Sept 30- Oct 3 we are holding our very popular, annual, free, online Global Health Week. It is open to all. We will feature dynamic innovators who are addressing a number of contemporary, global health challenges. Attendees will have a chance to engage virtually with our panelists. It is always inspiring to see colleagues from around the world collaborating during these sessions.

We received over 1100 abstract submissions for CUGH2025, Feb. 20-23, 2025, in Atlanta. This is close to a record for us! Thank you to all who made a submission. Please register now, and take advantage of our lowest rates. Also, consider holding a workshop at CUGH 2025 on Feb 20, or nominate individuals for our awards. We are open to receiving submissions. See www.cugh2025.org for additional information.

Finally, main nations have, or are, holding elections in 2024. This includes the US which will hold deeply consequential elections in November.  Prof. Ben Mason-Meir, co-chair of CUGH’s Advocacy and Communications Committee, and members of that committee created educational tools faculty, students and the public can use to learn about where parties stand on many global health issues. We would be grateful if you could use and share these products in your teaching, your courses or community. An informed electorate strengthens democracy.

Please forward this newsletter to your networks and help us to forge stronger collaborations around the world.

Best wishes,

Keith Martin, MD, PC

Executive Director
