Mental Health Awareness Month

Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. During May, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Each year they fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.

PRIDE IN THE PARK

Saturday, June 11th, 2022

10 AM - 3 PM

Coeur d'Alene City Park & Bandshell

At its core Pride in the Park is a, “FREE family-friendly, community celebration of LGBTQ+ inclusion and community diversity.” When the letters LGBTQ+ are spoken or written, in the “+” there’s an “A.” That “A” stands for ally. How we fit into a presence at Pride in the Park is that a couple of years ago we hung signs outside our building “All are Welcome All Means All.” We believed that our work with the Wesleyan Quadrilateral (Scripture, Tradition, Experience, Reason) compelled us to take Jesus' call to “love one another” public. It took courage and conviction and so does a booth at “Pride.” That it feels like a big step to some of us is not wrong and that is part of the complexity of “all” (it includes even us!)

This event presents an opportunity to have a conversation if that would be helpful to you. OR if you would like to be a part of the booth (we will also be present with other congregations in a cooperative labyrinth), please let us know by replying to this email or calling the office (208-765-8800). You could also just amble by if you happen to be there.

Prayers for peace for the country and people of Ukraine.

Rod and Marianne Underhill ask for prayers for Rod's mother, Helen that the family can work through her insurance and Helen is able to receive the heart surgery she needs.

Prayers for Jim and Gerrie VanVoorhis as Jim enters hospice house.

Gary and Lana Hamilton would like prayers their friend's son Nathan who is suffering with a serious illness in Japan.

Continued prayers for Bob & Paula McCall as Bob continues treatment with a tougher chemo.

Dave Jacobson requests prayers for his son Phillip as he transitions into a new community next month; and for daughter Ann's successful treatment for migraines.

Continued prayers for the Heidenreich family and Tanya's father, Jack Alexander, who has pancreatic cancer.

*Praise:  Mary Slade is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of her friends Clay and Linda! Congratulations!

MEET KELLY PHILLIPS

Kelly is the newest addition to the CUMC staff. Her position as "Office Manager" will combine the Office Admin's job with a touch of bookkeeping and a dash of Coeur Team Secretary!

She comes to CUMC with a background as a church administrative assistant.  First at a UMC in Kansas City, then at the Presbyterian Church in Post Falls.

Since moving to CdA she has been working at NIC, but is now excited to return to working in a church again.

Be sure to stop by the office to say hi and introduce yourself, and check out her bio on the website.

Delegates Still  Needed

Traditionally we send 2-3 delegates. Unfortunately conflicts in our delegates' schedules have left us with no one, leaving CUMC to find new delegates to participate.

There are no requirements of membership or knowledge of the UMC... simply a desire to know more about the state of our church in the world. The Zoom meetings will be on various dates and times June 7 through June 25.

If you're interested in knowing more about this valuable volunteer position, please email Pastor Heather for a conversation [email protected].
