Tuesday, February 19 th 7:00 PM, Asbury Room

There will be a Special Church Conference on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 7PM in the Asbury Room for the sole purpose of voting on our support of Changyong Shin’s process towards ordination in the Greater NJ Conference. Our District Superintendent Rev. Manuel Sardinas has appointed Rev. Jeff Markay to be the Presiding Elder at this special Church Conference. All members of the Chatham UMC have voice and vote in this discernment process.

Changyong has been one of our Simpson Seminarians this year and has been an active member of the Chatham UMC for the past 2 years. He has met with Rev. Markay for a year of reading and submitting reflection papers on the book The Christian As Minister. Changyong has met with our Staff Parish Relations Committee to tell them about God’s Call in his life. They have voted and affirmed his potential for ordained ministry and recommend him to a special Church Conference of the Chatham UMC. During this Special Church Conference, Changyong will tell us a bit about his sense of God’s Call in his life to seek ordination. We will have some time of conversation, culminating in a paper ballot vote. If our Church Conference affirms his Call at this stage in his life, he will then be accountable to the Gateway North District Committee on Ministry which will interview him, read more of his paperwork, and discern his ongoing call for at least the next 2-4 years.

If the DCOM discerns God’s Call for Changyong to be ordained, they will recommend him to the Greater NJ Conference Board of Ordained Ministry. The Conference Board of Ordained Ministry would then continue to work with Changyong through interviews, more in depth paperwork and ministry opportunities for the next 2-4 years. This is a long process towards ordination. Chatham UMC will be at the very initial stages of discerning Changyong’s potential for service to the denomination as an ordained person.

Following this Special Church Conference meeting, which should last about 30-40 minutes, we will have our monthly Church Council meeting. All members are invited to both meetings.
This Sunday morning for the 9:00 a.m. service, the choir will sing Come Unto Me by Kathy Harris. We will be joined in both services by guest organist and accompanist, Larissa Sokoloff.

The Ukulele Orchestra's next Saturday meeting will be March 2 nd at 10:30 a.m. in the Music Room.

On Sunday, March 3 rd, the Covenant Choir will sing Mark Miller’s Child of God accompanied by the Praise Band for the 9:00 a.m. service. With this special anthem of love and inclusivity, the music program invites all friends to sing together for the service. All singers will rehearse at 8:20 a.m. in the sanctuary.
