The CUNY CREST Institute is pleased to share some of the many accomplishments and events that marked the vibrant Fall 2024 semester filled with milestones, recognitions, and collaborations highlighting our commitment to advancing research and fostering innovation. Several of our distinguished faculty received prestigious grants from the U.S. DOE , NOAA, NSF, & NASA, supporting cutting-edge research in science and technology. Drs. Naresh Devineni and Prathap Ramamurthy have been selected to join the New York City Panel for Climate Change. Dr. Tarendra Lakhankar received the 2024 President’s Award for Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award. Further, a team of distinguished scholars and researchers from the UCAR and NASA visited CUNY CREST, CCNY. These visits further strengthened our existing ties with leading institutions in the atmospheric, earth system and space science community and we look forward to forging new collaborations that emerged from the visit. CREST hosted its 3rd annual retreat at CCNY's Center for Workers Education in NY City. The retreat led to productive outcomes of developing a 5-year strategic plan, cross-pillar collaborations ideas and path forward to achieve the institute’s mission. CREST also conducted the third seminar as part of its Deliver, Dialogue, Discuss, and Discourse (D4) Series. We are proud to have officially launched a new United Nations University hub on Remote Remote-Sensing and Sustainable Innovations for Resilient Urban Systems (R-SIRUS) at CCNY in November 2024. This momentous partnership agreement signing ceremony was attended by dignitaries, faculty, and students and it advances the institute’s global sustainability initiatives and academic partnerships. Dr. Shakila Merchant, CUNY CREST HIRES Director, represented the institute at events such as SACNAS, annual NDiSTEM conference and GEO REU in Arizona as well as the Water Edge’s Beach Revival Activation- a community event in Far Rockaway, NY. CREST also participated in the Heroes of High Ridge Walk/Run-2024 Family & Community Resource Fair organized by the New Pathways Academy in NY. As we move into the winter months, I am thrilled with the strides we’ve made in research, education, and community engagement. The achievements of our faculty, students, & affiliates reflect the dedication and excellence that defines CREST Institute. We look forward to building on this momentum in the upcoming year and continuing to make a significant societal impact through our scientific and educational collaborations. Wishing you all happy holidays and new year! | |
