Our grads really get somewhere: The financial news service 24/7 Wall St. names eight CUNY colleges among the top 15 in the country for facilitating social mobility, including the No. 1 spot!

Mayor Adams’ new $600M plan to prepare young people for the workforce includes an expansion of the successful CUNY 2X Tech internship program to five campuses and, for the first time, all community colleges.

Writing instructors are using ChatGPT as a tool in their classrooms — read about their “gasp-worthy” moments and which topics the bots refuse to discuss.

The visionary leaders of CUNY’s Office of Transformation joined our CUNYCast podcast to discuss the University’s goals to remake itself and why they think of themselves as a “SWAT team” that can turn ideas into reality.

Students from this CUNY community college will be able to transfer into their dream bachelor’s and master’s programs, with most expenses covered, thanks to a $1M grant from this Congress member.

This CUNY’s food pantry is getting a new section for pet supplies — including food, toys and items like leashes and collars — thanks to a holiday drive organized by the school’s veterinary technician students.

CUNY Callouts: Meet New Faces

Sabrina Espinal graduated from City College in 2022 with a degree in Dominican international studies. Through photography and digital media, she draws from her personal experience to share the stories of other first-gen college students and those from historically marginalized groups.

During her time at CUNY, Sabrina interned at CUNY’s Office of Communications and Marketing, where she wrote for the CUNYverse student blog and was able to bring, as she says, a “blend of cultural sensitivity and first-hand understanding of the college journey.”

As a digital marketing apprentice for COOP, an organization that connects first-generation graduates to full-time employment opportunities, Sabrina learned the fundamentals of media planning. She gained additional work experience through an internship in management consulting at Skillful.ly and at VaynerMedia, an agency with a client list that includes Zoom, Tinder and TikTok. Through those experiences she tracked budgets, worked on media campaigns and collaborated with data analysts to optimize audience engagement. She is currently working as a communications and content intern at an advertising tech company, Smartly.io.

What advice do you have for recent graduates?

“Be kind to yourself and believe in what you do. Allow yourself to re-learn what you know and walk with a student mindset. We are a work in progress, and you’ll never stop learning. Be open to new opportunities, even if they are scary, those are the ones that prepare you the most!”
