Every year, the Ontario Chiropractic Association celebrates excellence in the Chiropractic Profession. In January, the annual OCA Awards were held to honour Ontario chiropractors and professionals who inspire, deliver exceptional health care, and lead the chiropractic profession forward. There are eight award categories in total that celebrate excellence in the chiropractic profession in Ontario.
We are proud to announce that CURAVITA Health Group’s CEO, Dr. Ken Brough is the recipient of the OCA’s 2022 Chiropractor of the Year, and Dr. Michele Corriveau of our CURAVITA Byward Clinic location, is the recipient of the OCA’s 2022 Community Service Award!
The OCA’s prestigious Chiropractor of the Year Award honours a Chiropractor who has been an OCA member in good standing for 15 years or more and demonstrates a sustained commitment to the profession by acting as a leader and role model and has made a significant contribution to the profession through Community Service, Patient Care, Research and Advocacy. The recipient of this Award is chosen by a distinguished and independent panel of leaders within the Ontario chiropractic profession as well as previous award recipients.
Amongst a number of achievements, Dr. Brough was recognized for his 31 years in practice; building and operating two CURAVITA clinic locations; employing and mentoring a collaborative, multi-disciplinary healthcare team of over 25 professionals that includes Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Registered Massage Therapists and Clinic Health Assistants; and providing internship opportunities to chiropractic students from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College - all the while being deeply involvement in leadership positions with his professional associations, and consistently giving back to his community.
More specifically, Dr. Brough’s was recognized for his involvement with the Ontario Chiropractic
Association as a member for a total of 31 years, and for the last 15 years in his role as President/Chair of the Board for 4 years (2018 - 2022), the Vice President, the Secretary Treasurer, a member on the Board of Directors, the Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee, the Chair of the CEO Search Committee, a member of the Evidence Based Framework Advisory Committee, and a member on the Ethics Committee.
In addition, Dr. Brough served as the Ontario Governor to the Canadian Chiropractic Association for 9 years where he sat as the Chair of the Government and Inter-Professional Relations Committee. In that role he was responsible for leading the CCA’s lobbying efforts with the Federal Government and its related stakeholders as well as relationships with allied professional groups. He also served on the Steering Committee of the Canadian Chiropractic Clinical Guidelines Initiative, and as a member on the Research Committee.
The OCA’s Community Service Award celebrates a chiropractor who has made a significant contribution to enhancing the reputation of the profession through Community Service and /or Public Education. The recipient of this award is nominated by and voted upon by her peers. Amongst a number of achievements, Dr. Corriveau was recognized for the important work she has been doing with The Ottawa Mission since 2015, where she continues to offer regular chiropractic care to its residents and community members on a weekly basis. In this volunteer position, Dr. Corriveau collaborates with The Mission’s established healthcare team. The Ottawa Mission opened in 1906 primarily as a men’s homeless shelter. Their programs have expanded over time into a modern service hub with comprehensive health, community and social services to help the most vulnerable in our community. Dr. Corriveau volunteers her time as a Doctor of Chiropractic at the Mission creating access to MSK care for a population in need.
In addition to her volunteer work providing chiropractic care to clients of The Ottawa Mission, Dr. Corriveau has a valued presence in the community in public health education promoting chiropractic and healthy living at the Pauline-Charron Centre. The Pauline-Charron Centre is community centre for retired Franco-Ontarians. Dr. Corriveau has been providing health and wellness workshops on a variety of preventative health and wellness topics on a semi-monthly basis since 2015 to the Centre’s members.
