Employee Spotlight:

Amber Ward

As we continue to give recognition to our incredible staff, our leaders would like to proudly announce that Amber Ward, Care Coordinator, is March's CURIS Employee of the Month!

Amber's supervisor, AVP Donna Bryant-Winston, said that "Amber is an extremely compassionate and committed individual. With her knowledge and background in health care, she has been a true leader and resource for her coworkers. She is quick to show initiative and is an integral part of the care team. She can be depended upon to deliver as promised."

We are thrilled to have Amber as a valued team member and look forward to continuing to support her growth with CURIS! Congrats Amber!

CURIS at Conferences

It is no question that virtual conferences have been valuable opportunities over the past 3 years, however, the value significantly increases when attendees are learning and networking in person!

This is why our leadership team (pictured below left to right: James Sheehy, Jen Calohan, Shannon Nielson) was so excited to attend NACHC's first in-person Policy and Issues Forum, since 2019!

When asked about the takeaways from the conference, Jen said "It was great to see so many old friends and familiar faces and meet some amazing new people at NACHC's P&I Forum last week! Love this team and the work we get to do every day!".

Colorectal Cancer Awareness

With March coming to a close, we want to recognize Colorectal Cancer awareness month and emphasize the importance of routine screening and early detection. For colorectal cancer screening, it is often a challenge to get patients to engage and follow through - due to a variety of barriers. As part of providing culturally competent care – we recommend 2 key strategies to remove barriers, improve screening rates and ultimately – improve outcomes!

First, Community Health Workers can play an especially important role in breaking down cultural and environmental barriers that may lead to increased risk and potential resistance to screening.

Second, it is critical to have an innovative patient outreach strategy that includes bidirectional communication to identify barriers and work with patients to address them. By engaging patients meaningfully, we can save lives through screening and early detection!

Is It Time to Reevaluate Your Virtual Care Model?

This year, March marks the 3-year point since the rapid implementation of telehealth as a primary mechanism for care delivery across the country. In March of 2020, there was no time for typical technology selection processes or PDSA cycles to perfect new workflows. So - now is the perfect time to reevaluate your telehealth model and verify its efficiency, and effectiveness, and ensure a positive experience for patients and providers alike.

Things to evaluate might include your organization’s:

  • HIT Tool/Platform
  • Services
  • Workflow
  • Access Points
  • Financial Impact
