Hello CUSD Community and Families,

This week was interesting. Our sites recently shared a document asking our communities to help stop the possible destruction and theft within our school restrooms. This current nationwide trend began with a Tik Tok Challenge known as “Devious Licks.” Students take it upon themselves to steal soap dispensers or destroy restrooms. With all of the hard work that our staff has done to make sure our sites are clean and ready for our students, it would be a shame if this occurred. Engaging in this type of behavior could also cause our students to face disciplinary consequences and, in some cases, be charged with a juvenile crime. Please help us by explaining the importance of making the right choice and keeping our schools safe.

On a positive note, Calexico and Aurora High Schools held their virtual Back to School nights on Monday, September 21, 2021. We hope that our students and parents were provided with the information to succeed in their classes this year.

We would also like to invite our community to consider supporting the Foundation for Education event, “Autumn and the Arts” - A celebration of Students, the Arts and Education. This fundraiser has been organized to support scholarships for students throughout Imperial County. The Calexico High School Culinary Arts will be showcasing their culinary skills.

Take a moment to view this week’s highlights and special recognitions! Our Calexico High School SAVE Promise Club initiated “Hello Week” and included a video of their activities.

Tuesday, September 21, 2021, was National IT Professionals Day. We would like to take an opportunity to recognize all of the work that our district and site information technology staff do daily. They are there to troubleshoot when we need help and were instrumental in the success of our distance learning programs. They have ensured that our technology, hardware, software, and devices are always ready to go.

Exposures to COVID-19 continue to decrease; we ask that our parents continue to help us by not sending your students to school if they exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, vomiting, headache, coughing, diarrhea, and a runny nose.

May you have a restful weekend.

Thank you, Carlos R. Gonzales, CUSD Superintendent
