Your Weekly Update: March 23, 2020
COVID-19 and the construction industry

There have been a lot of changes since last week at this time and we've tried to keep you informed with Municipal Updates providing information from the localities and agencies you work with on a daily basis. Click here for a compilation of those updates from last week.

Two top-of-mind topics have been inspections and construction as an "essential" industry.

As of today, localities throughout our area continue to handle inspections in various ways, as reported last week. You'll find that information by clicking on the link above.

Both NAHB and HBAV have requested that the federal and state governments consider construction an "essential" industry as more states move to enact "remain in place" policies. Click here for the memo NAHB sent the Department of Homeland Security addressing this issue.

HBAV is holding a Membership Town Hall at noon this Wednesday, March 25, to discuss statewide issues and other developments that come up between now and then. Click here to register.

As CVBIA continues to receive updates from local governments about changes to their operating schedules, as well as other pertinent information, we'll share that with you.

Best regards,
Ryan Rose, CVBIA President

National News

NAHB is working diligently to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on the residential construction sector. Congress has passed an emergency response coronavirus bill that includes tax credits to help businesses and self-employed individuals cover some of the costs of mandatory sick leave included in the legislation. More details on the bill can be found  here .

NAHB also participated in a conference call with White House officials to discuss strategies to provide needed aid and stimulus to the housing sector. Shortly after, the President put into effect the recommendation to provide mortgage relief to homeowners, announcing that  HUD is suspending foreclosures and evictions  for mortgages insured by the Federal Housing Administration through the end of April.

NAHB BUILD-PAC has launched a campaign that challenges members to get involved in the political process. It's important that the industry mobilizes as a united front during this election year and any contribution - even as little as $20 - will help. Learn more by visiting the Housing 2020 website .
