2020-2021 SPORTS INFORMATION
CVCA Parents,

We are excited for the return of CVCA Athletics. Our team has been working diligently on a plan for a proper and safe return to play. We have collaborated with Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine and stayed in tune with updates from the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio High School Athletic Association. The athletics plan will proceed in phases with Phase One set to begin on Monday, June 1. Phase One non-contact skills training is detailed below. In addition, you will find the CVCA Athletic Release Waiver.  This waiver must be completed prior to participation in any CVCA 2020 Summer Skills Workouts.   Our coaches will coordinate any and all activities with our CVCA Athletic Office and Administration team and will be in contact with you.

Sincerely,
CVCA Administration & Athletic Office
CVCA SUMMER 2020 SKILLS WORKOUTS
PHASE 1 DETAILS

Pre-Workout Screening:
  1. All coaches and students will be screened on-campus for signs/symptoms of COVID-19 prior to a workout, including a temperature check. Please see the CC COVID-19 Monitoring Form available HERE>>.
  2. Any player with positive symptoms during the screening process will not be allowed to take part in workouts and coaches will contact parents and the Athletic Department immediately. If an athlete answers affirmative to any of the indicators, he/she will not be allowed to participate for 14 days and/or receives clearance from his/her medical provider. The procedure for COVID positive test contact tracing and isolation will follow the current Ohio Department of Health policy.
  • Vulnerable individuals (asthma, diabetes, autoimmune disorders) should not oversee or participate in any workouts during Phase One.
  • It is recommended that masks be worn by the coaches and athletes to and from the training facility.

Limitations on Gathering:
  1. Gatherings will not consist of more than 10 people at a time in one location, to include all participants and coaches.
  2. It is mandatory that coaching/training personnel wear face coverings while indoors supervising in Phase One.
  3. Locker rooms will NOT be used during Phase One. Students will report to workouts in proper gear and immediately return home to shower at the end of the workout. (This includes players’ and coaches’ locker rooms.)
  4. Workouts will be conducted in “pods” of students with the same 5-10 players (including coaches) always working out together.
  5. Pods will be preassigned so players know their work group before skills training.
  6.  There will be a minimum distance of 6 feet between each individual at all times. If this is not possible, the number of individuals in the room will be decreased until proper social distancing can occur.
  • The only available CVCA restrooms will be in the stadium.
  • We MUST stress no team “huddles” or congregating. (This includes the parking lot after workouts.)

Facilities Cleaning:
  1. Adequate cleaning schedules have been created and implemented for all athletic facilities.
  2. Prior to an individual or group entering a facility, all hard surfaces within that facility will be wiped down and sanitized. Hard surface examples include but are not limited to chairs, furniture, locker rooms, weight room equipment, bathrooms, and training tables.
  3. Individuals must wash their hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap before touching any surfaces or participating in workouts.
  4. Hand sanitizer will be available to individuals.
  5. Any equipment such as weight benches and athletic pads that have holes with exposed foam will be covered.
  6. Students will be encouraged to shower and wash their workout clothing immediately upon returning home.
  7. Weight equipment will be wiped down thoroughly before and after each individual uses the equipment.
  • Time will be allotted between sessions (or station rotations) to allow teams to exit fields/facilities prior to new teams arriving.
  • Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.

Physical Activity and Athletic Equipment:
  1. There must be no shared athletic equipment (towels, clothing, shoes, or sport specific equipment) between students.
  2. Students must wear their own workout clothing, and clothing/towels should be washed and cleaned after every workout.
  3. All athletic equipment, including balls, must and will be cleaned after each use and prior to the next workout.
  4. Individual drills requiring the use of athletic equipment can be permissible, but the equipment will be cleaned between use of each individual.
  5. There will be a focus on resistance training with bodyweight, sub-maximal lifts, and use of resistance bands.
  6. Free weight exercises that require a spotter will not be conducted, as they cannot be conducted while observing social distancing.

Hydration:
  1. All students must bring their own water bottle, and water bottles cannot not be shared. If a student does not come prepared with adequate water they may not participate.
  2. Hydration stations (water fountains, water troughs, etc.) will not be used.
ATHLETIC RELEASE WAIVER
The CVCA COVID-19 Athletic Release Waiver (at right) must be signed by parents/guardians and turned in prior to participation in any CVCA 2020 Summer Skills Workouts. The waiver will be submitted to your coach.
SPORT REGISTRATION
All student-athletes must be registered for their 2020-2021 sport(s) through FinalForms. Sport registration is done through the Parent account. After logging in, visit the “My Students” section and click the blue button to switch to the 2020-2021 school year.
  • If you are new to FinalForms, use the link at right and follow the steps to create a new account.
SPORTS PHYSICALS
At this time, the Ohio High School Athletic Association will not be granting extensions or exemptions on sports physicals for the 2020-2021 school year. A current sports physical must be on file with the CVCA Athletic Office prior to sport participation. Please make sure to update your physical prior to the expiration on your current one.

We do not have a date set for our yearly Cleveland Clinic sports physicals at CVCA. Due to current restrictions, it appears unlikely that we will have mass physicals at the school this year. CVCA team physician Dr. Aaron Lear is encouraging families to contact their primary care physician or a Cleveland Clinic Express Care location for an exam.
