A couple of weeks ago, my department headed over to Margaritaville Resort in Kissimmee for the 2026 CAMU Homecoming and Trade Show, appropriately themed “Passport to Paradise.” Now, if you have to spend a day talking about HOA board meetings, hurricanes, crisis management, vendors, contracts, and continuing education, there are certainly worse places to do it than Margaritaville. And, we may have spent some time in the gift shop.

The conference brought together HOA managers, vendors, and board members from across Florida for a full day of classes, networking, vendor exhibits, and, yes, a little fun too.

The three of us divided and conquered, each taking different classes based on our interests so we could compare notes and share what we learned afterward. But one thing became very clear to me throughout the day: everyone is dealing with many of the same challenges. And after hearing a few of the HOA horror stories from around the state, I also came away thinking, you know what? We have it pretty darn good here in Viera. Our issues suddenly seemed refreshingly…normal.

E-bikes and e-scooters have rapidly become a familiar sight on our neighborhood streets, sidewalks, and trail systems. Offering a convenient, eco-friendly, and fun way to travel, these devices are transforming how residents of all ages get around.

Since e-bikes and scooters travel significantly faster and quieter than traditional bicycles, maintaining a safe environment requires a shared effort from riders, pedestrians, and motorists alike. Whether you own an e-bike, drive through the neighborhood, or prefer walking our community trails, having a clear understanding of local guidelines and Florida law helps keep everyone safe.

Florida’s E-Bike and E-Scooter Laws at a Glance

Under Florida law, electric bicycles and motorized scooters are generally granted the same rights and responsibilities as traditional bicycles:

• Licensing & Registration: Riders do not need a driver’s license, vehicle registration, title, or auto insurance to operate a standard e-bike or e-scooter. (Note: Class 3 e-bikes, which provide motor assistance up to 28 mph, require riders to be at least 16 years old).
