Meagan Gallagher, Residential Programs Manager

- Bishop Grady Villas

Bishop Grady Villas started partnering with Catholic Volunteers in Florida in 2009.

Since then we have been blessed to host 18 different volunteers who serve as Resident Assistants and Job Coaches assisting people with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential.

Our Executive Director, Kevin Johnson, served as a Catholic Volunteer from 2001-2003.  Kevin and his wife did a year of service after graduating college as live in staff at a group home where they first began serving people with developmental disabilities.  He now continues to serve CVIF as a board member.

Each year the residents of Bishop Grady Villas welcome the volunteers into our community with open arms.  I see an amazing connection between our volunteers and our residents and am constantly impressed with the mutual respect and love they share with each other.  Each year our volunteers and residents grow together in service, friendship and faith.

Each CV has brought education, experience and passion for working with people with disabilities.

They are excellent leaders, role models, advocates and hard workers.   They each have lovingly served our residents and have made our residential team stronger with their dedication to the residents.

Many of our volunteers have been selected to transition to full time staff members after their volunteer year. Other volunteers have moved on to amazing careers serving their community as doctors, nurses, managers, teachers, speech therapists and more. These individuals have been touched by the lives of our residents and share that knowledge and passion with everyone they meet. We are so grateful for our partnership with Catholic Volunteers in Florida!
   BGV Harvest Ball 2013

Bishop Grady Villas' Annual Harvest Ball was a blast! CVIF attended the event as a group of volunteers, assisting with the  Silent and Live Auction! CVs from other communities came to the event, and were given a glimpse of what our Resident
Assistants do in service each day. CVIF has supported Bishop Grady Villas in their Harvest Ball since 2010.

Fall retreat 2013
Warren Willis Camp, Fruitland Park, FL October 24th-27th
Our fall retreat kicked off at Warren Willis Camp on Thursday evening. Volunteers had the chance to pray together, serve one another on the High/Low Ropes courses, build community in creating prayer partner boxes, and jack-o-lanterns! Volunteers reflected on how their year is going, and what surprises they are encountering in their year of service, and shared on our most recent book. The retreat ended on a high, with a real Dominican Dinner, a bonfire with s'mores, and attending church together before parting ways.

CVIF had some great visitors that share their passion with the volunteers and staff. Teresa Peterson from the Diocese of Orlando Communications Office came and spoke with the group about "Spiritual Journaling" Diane Gallagher, from the Diocese of Orlando Media Office, share her passion, and led the group in a yoga stretching session. Father George Nursey, of St. John Vianney parish came to share a meal with the volunteers, and hang out while the CV communities carved pumpkins.
