Federal & State Regulations

Freight Waves- A revamp of a controversial proposed rule setting standards for using hair to test truckers for drugs has been received by the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review.

The OMB's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, which is conducting the review, has up to 90 days to assess the guidelines being proposed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Trucker- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has launched Operation Protect Your Move, a nationwide crackdown on scam movers.

The FMCSA is deploying dozens of investigators across the country in an enforcement sweep. The agency will also address complaints against moving companies and brokers that are not in compliance with federal safety and consumer protection regulations and statutes while transporting household goods.

Government

Transport Topics- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has granted California environmental regulators waivers to officially move forward with the agency’s aggressive plans to transition diesel trucks to electric vehicles and expand the length of truck warranties.

Bridge Michigan- Michigan’s infrastructure is in bad shape, and recent estimates suggest the state’s roads, bridges, water systems and transit are only getting costlier to fix. But at least for now, the state’s Democratic leadership isn’t quite ready to take the oft-traveled, pothole-riddled road toward a long-term funding plan.

Transport Topics- Michigan’s first container terminal is rising in Monroe. The Port of Monroe recently received $16 million in state and federal grants to build a terminal that will allow the port to handle container shipments, the most common and efficient shipment method for goods. The port is located on River Raisin, connecting to the west end of Lake Erie.
