Discipleship Ministries Lenten Series:
The UMC Discipleship Ministries have put together a playlist for inspiration, meditation, and reflection through Lent.
Listen to "Head Above Water" by Avril Lavigne at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKF6ghfcQic
Like many of us, the writer of Psalm 27 knows trouble, as does Jesus when he is confronted by the Pharisees attempting to scare him into being quiet or, at the very least, getting out of town (Luke 13:31). Yet both the psalmist and Jesus do an odd thing when faced with threats: they stay the course. They refuse to be swallowed up and swayed by fear. Instead, they root themselves in God, whose steadfast love conceals and protects, whose love keeps their heads above water. As you listen to Avril Lavigne’s “Head Above Water,” consider the storms in your life that you need God to protect you and sustain you through. Do you trust that God will take care of you through those storms?

TONIGHT!
Friday Movie Night – One Friday each month we will have an all church event. On March 14th at 7:30, Pastor Kevin will be showing “A Taxi Driver”. There has been some discussion with him about learning more about Korean uprisings. Here is a brief description of the movie “A widowed father and taxi driver who drives a German reporter from Seoul to Gwangju to cover the 1980 uprising, soon finds himself regretting his decision after being caught in the violence around him.”
You can learn more at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6878038/All ages are invited!

Jo Ann is now working in Student Support Services at Glendale Unified School District and hearing some very sad stories about homeless and foster youth and their families, thinking our congregation might be able to help. These are some things that are in need and if we could rally together and help, that would be great. You can bring to church anytime and she will deliver them as we receive them.
Boys shoes - size 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 (not adult, kids sizes)
Umbrellas - kids and adults
Carts that people can take their food donations with, like this available at https://a.co/d/1Z3FcHo
They also asked if you see any job openings for entry level positions such as dishwashers to take a picture and send it to Jo Ann as she will forward. Remember most of these families are located in the southern part of Glendale so jobs close to home are desirable. And some are undocumented, so getting a job is challenging.
Anything we can do to help would be greatly appreciated.

Easter Music Program:
We plan on welcoming guests on Easter Sunday with an amazing brass group and additional musicians... however our music fund is short of funds. If you are so inclined to make a donation to our incredible music program, you can do so on Sunday with an offering indicating 'Music Program' on the envelope or send a check into the church office. Thank you!

Bailey Center and Learning Works:
First Sundays of the month:
Non-perishable foods and paper goods collected for Bailey Center & Learning Works. Financial donations also welcome.
| | |
For Bailey Center, non-perishable foods are essential – they are still providing food for around 1,000 people each month. They also can use egg cartons! They receive large flats of eggs and needs egg cartons to put the eggs in for safe distribution and travel. Financial donations can be given as well. Make checks out to CVUMC with Bailey Center indicated in the Memo.
For Learning Works, foods that are easily microwaveable are really helpful. As always, any non-perishable food, paper goods, hand sanitizers, disposable training/pull-up diapers for toddlers, sippy-cups – all are greatly appreciated. Many thanks to you from the students and staff of Learning Works for the donations you have sent them. If making a financial donation, checks can be made out to CVUMC with Learning Works in the Memo. Thank you always for your concern and care for people in our community who are in need.

Walk And Word
You are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings at 8 AM at Deukmejian Wilderness Park for an easy hike and some time reading and pondering Scripture. Here’s how it goes - I am there on every 2nd, 3rd, 4th (sometimes 5th) Sunday at 8 AM in the parking lot at Deukmejian. We walk for an hour and then find a spot to sit and read a selection of scripture. We journal about it for a while and then share our thoughts, many of which are questions. We finish by 10 AM.
We have found that the exercise in the natural setting enhances our openness to receiving wisdom that awaits us in the morning’s passage. We appreciate the different perspectives that unfold with conversation. We would love to hear yours.
If you’re looking for an alternative to the hiking, the park provides wheelchair access and some level areas for walking. Please contact me if you have questions.
Peace,
Jeanne Lavieri
