CWA'S MALLARD HABITAT, COMBO HUNTING/FISHING LICENSE BILLS ADVANCE
Two state bills sponsored by California Waterfowl were approved in their houses of origin this week.

AB 614 (Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters), which would fund and start up a gamebird nesting habitat incentive program that is already authorized in law, passed the Assembly 65-2.

SB 470 (Brian Jones, R-Santee), which would create a combination hunting and fishing license, passed the Senate 37-0 as a "consent" item, meaning there was no known opposition.

CWA was also awaiting a floor vote Thursday afternoon on AB 1223, a huge tax on guns and ammo. Click here to see the status of that bill and all the other bills we are supporting or opposing this year.
UPDATE: Lower Klamath water rights purchase status
California Waterfowl's Lower Klamath Refuge Task Force has raised more than $650,000 for its effort to purchase water rights for the parched refuge.

CWA entered into an agreement this spring to purchase rights to 4,500 acre-feet of water per year for the refuge. All told, CWA is pursuing 30,000 acre-feet of rights, as well as
federal funding to pay for the bulk of the purchases.

The 4,500 AF purchase is going through required approval processes. Click here to learn more about where this critical effort stands.
New web feature helps CWA!
Processing credit card transactions costs California Waterfowl money and reduces the value of donations made by credit card. But a new "donor covers costs" feature on our website helps!

Covering fees associated with a $25 donation costs you less than a dollar, but it really adds up for CWA when our 20,000 members and supporters choose that option.

Want to help? Just look for the "cover the fees" option when you join, renew or make any donation - it's one small step that makes one big difference for CWA!
