Welcome to the Pack!

Two of our long-time volunteers, Paul Gonzales and Katie Gleason, have recently welcomed a new baby to their family! Little baby Lydia Rebecca Gonzales was born on May 4th, 2023

Understandably, we will not be seeing Paul or Katie volunteering at CWC for a while but they do plan to visit us soon to introduce baby Lydia to staff, volunteers and our wolves. So please make sure to congratulate them if/when you see them.

SSP Meeting

Effective July 14, 2023 Mexican Gray Wolves officially became part of the S.A.F.E. (Saving Animals From Extinction) program and is no longer part of the SSP. This change does not change the program in any way other than allowing more opportunities for new partnerships.

As of mid-July, there were 36 MGW facilities in the USA and 24 in Mexico helping with the recovery program. Reportedly, there were approximately 256 MGW in the wild population and 357 in the captive-human care facilities. The meetings allowed us to network with like-minded conservation organizations to get new ideas and share our successes and challenges with each other.

We will continue to look at new ways to help enrich the lives of the wolves in our care and be looking at our protocols to reinforce our efforts to be successful within the program.

June's Volunteer of the Month

June's Volunteer of the Month went to Ernie Florez!

Ernie volunteers at least twice a month despite his long drive from Winchester, Ca. He is extremely helpful and self-sufficient in facilities projects and is always happy to do whatever is needed. Recently, he spent several days smoothing out tall pine rd.

So if you see Ernie around CWC, make sure to congratulate him with a high five!

The Heat is On!

Summer is in full swing which means temps up at CWC are intensifying; therefore, we wanted to remind everyone to make sure you are staying hydrated, you're wearing sunscreen, and keeping an eye out for signs of heat illnesses. Not sure what that looks like? Click on the links below for some infographics.
