SSP Meeting
Effective July 14, 2023 Mexican Gray Wolves officially became part of the S.A.F.E. (Saving Animals From Extinction) program and is no longer part of the SSP. This change does not change the program in any way other than allowing more opportunities for new partnerships.
As of mid-July, there were 36 MGW facilities in the USA and 24 in Mexico helping with the recovery program. Reportedly, there were approximately 256 MGW in the wild population and 357 in the captive-human care facilities. The meetings allowed us to network with like-minded conservation organizations to get new ideas and share our successes and challenges with each other.
We will continue to look at new ways to help enrich the lives of the wolves in our care and be looking at our protocols to reinforce our efforts to be successful within the program.
