Yoder Update - February 2026

We are often asked about the situation in Haiti and how the ministry is going there. If we go by the reported numbers about the crisis in Haiti, things are not good. The United Nations Office of the Coordination of Human Affairs (OCHA) reports on their website reliefweb, numbers that give no hope. In 2025, 5,900 people were killed because of the violence and there were 22 reported cases per day of gender-based violence. There have been 1.45 million internally displaced people and 295,000 forcibly returned to Haiti from the Dominican Republic. Over half the population of Haiti are living in food insecurity with 1.9 million at the highest level of food insecurity.

But we must say that God has been so good. Despite all the negative that is reported, God continues to work through the ministries of Christian World Outreach (CWO) in Haiti. He has kept our staff safe from harm and most of our facilities safe from destruction or being taken over.

Last July the Feminine Training Center (FTC) in Port-au-Prince held a mini fashion show. We recognize and applaud the great determination and courage of the 12 ladies, as well as the FTC teachers. The ladies kept attending their classes, and the teachers were always present to teach their classes.  There were many days when teachers and students could not go to class due to violence between police and gang members, but they were determined to learn when they could. On September 20, 2025, a graduation was held for this courageous group of ladies.

The Children’s Feeding Program in Port-au-Prince and LaJuene, Haiti continues to give children hot meals during this time of food insecurity. For some of these children this may be the only meal they get during the day. Yvrose prepares meals for the children in LaJuene. One day Marie St Amour noticed that Shouby, a 7-year-old child being fed, did not eat her food, nor did she drink her juice. Marie observed that one of the helpers took a container and put Shouby’s food into it. She also pulled out an empty bottle and poured the juice into it. She then capped the bottle. Unable to fully understand the behavior of the girl, Marie called her away from the group and asked her why she did not eat her food or drink her juice. She answered, “My two brothers shared their food with me, and I am taking my food and drink home for my mother, who has not eaten since morning." When we feed these children, we know that it sometimes reaches beyond just those who attend each day.Joel, the ministry leader of the Haiti ministries, always has a concern for the health of his wife Marie since her heart transplant. They both recently had the respiratory illness that has been going around which had him very concerned. Joel also had eye surgery on both eyes in December. Despite they own issues they are still concerned about the gangs causing havoc in Haiti.

The CWO churches in Haiti have continued to serve the people in their communities. The CWO church in LaVictoire regularly welcomes new people who have been forced to flee from either Port-au-Prince and Mirebalais. The people have left to seek asylum in the Northern parts of Haiti where it is safer. Jacob Baptiste and his daughter recently arrived in the LaVictoire area from Mirebalais. They lost everything including their house, business, clothing and so forth. They arrived in LaVictoire and chose to become members of the LaVictoire church where they received the right hand of fellowship for membership on September 14, 2025.

Pastor Icher Fanius Octave is the founder of the CWO Ouanaminthe church. He wrote, “I can never stop giving thanks to the Lord for what He has done in my life , especially in my ministry in Ouanaminthe. I started the ministry in the month of June 2006. The first service was attended by 12 new converts that Sunday morning. They did not have any idea about what church really was. It goes without saying that no one knew how to pray, worship or lead a service to say the least. The Lord led me to mentor them others who came to know the Lord. Today the membership of the church is no less than 350 members. Because the church has grown in number over the last 8 years, the Lord led me to ordain nine among the membership of the church as deacons and deaconesses on August 3, 2025. They are among those who have shown unquestionable signs of spiritual growth and maturity in the Lord. I am asking for your prayers so that the Lord’s will may continue to be done in our lives and in the life of the church of Jesus Christ.” It is a good thing to mentor people so that they too can mentor others.

Thank you for praying for the CWO ministries especially in Haiti. Thank you for praying and giving financially as we continue to serve the Lord at CWO.
