My last trip to Haiti was in January 2021 for the annual Leadership Conference. Despite the COVID pandemic, I was able to attend the conference. Since that time, traveling to Haiti has not been possible, and I miss being there. As safety became more and more of an issue in Haiti, our Haitian staff has discouraged us from traveling there because they care for us. We honor their request not only for our sake but also not to put any of them in danger. The situation there continues to cause us to be concerned for our staff and those they minister to each day. God has been good and kept our staff safe despite the danger they live with every day.
Pastor Joel and Marie have just finished their time with the church leaders at this year’s Leadership Conference. They are now busy preparing for the Feminine Training Center (FTC) graduation. I must admit that I am jealous that they were able to participate in the Leadership Conference and will be there for the FTC graduation.
The Leadership Conference this year was moved from January to July at the request of the church leaders. It is better for the leaders to be away from their ministries this time of year since the beginning of the year is a busy time for them at their churches. The Leadership Conference is important to the church leaders for several reasons. It is a great time for them to come together to share how God is working in their churches. It is a great time for them to be fed spiritually and academically. It is also a time for them to rest. They do not take time off from their ministries at their churches except for this one time each year. I miss being a part of the Leadership Conference and hearing first-hand how God is working in the churches, being able to share God’s word with them, and enjoying just sitting and talking about life with them.
