Yoder Update - May 2023

I read a question the other day that I could not get out of my head. The writer asked, “What would people miss or regret losing if your organization (Christian World Outreach) ceased to exist tomorrow morning?” My first thought was, would they miss CWO? After thinking about this for a while I can up with a one word answer. Hope.

Hope for an education. Like Trish, a 13-year-old girl who has been in the Zimbabwe Our Kids (OK) Program since second grade. Her father left the family when she was young. This year Trish was selected to be a Perfect (student leader) at school. She was so happy and said, “I am so happy. I could not believe it when my name was announced because I always thought I was a reject.” She also shared that she has confidence to be a Perfect because of what she has learned at OK camps. There are also children in Sri Lanka receiving tutoring that would not be available if CWO was not there. Education is changing lives.

Hope for employment. It is expected that the majority of the ladies attending the Feminine Training Centers (FTC) in Haiti and those at the Village of Opportunity in Burkina Faso will be able to start their own business or be able to find a job after they graduate or soon after. FTC graduation was recently held in LaJeune, Haiti and will soon happen in Burkina Faso. We are hoping and praying that things will get to the point, if it is safe, for the ladies to take the exams and that we will be able to hold graduation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Employment gives hope that women can support their families.

Hope for good health. The Mobile Clinic in Burkina Faso offers medical care to those in villages that do not have medical facilities. A recent Mobile Clinic was held at a church in Boassa. The medical team was able to treat 147 people giving immunizations and providing wound care. While people waited for the medical team to see them the evangelistic team shared the Gospel and prayed with people. A total of 14 people accepted Christ as their personal Savoir that day and another 22 did the same at an evangelistic outreach that took place after the clinic.

Hope that only God can give through His Son which is the most important hope we can offer. We are always excited to hear about those who have accepted Christ and are baptized in Haiti. This year, 13 people were baptized and joined the Ouanaminthe Church and 12 people were baptized and joined the LaVictoire Church. All of the hope we offer through the CWO ministries touching people’s lives physically, mentally, and socially would mean nothing if we did not share how their lives can be changed spiritually. The above ministries give us the opportunity to share God’s love and what He has done for us.

Please pray that all the CWO staff in Burkina Faso, Haiti, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and the US may never lose focus of our main purpose of sharing the Gospel. Pray for us as we plant and water the seed of Christ’s hope waiting for the Holy Spirit to cause the seeds to grow. Thank you for being a part of the hope CWO can offer by praying for us, encouraging us, and financially supporting the work God is doing.

Serving Together,

Greg and Laura
