Come Have Fall Fun in the Fog at the
38th Family Fun Fest!
| |
|
The Family Fun Fest is a 38-year Pacifica tradition that we are putting on for the community again after two long years - an afternoon of play, community building, fun and games sponsored by the Pacifica Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Department. The Family Fun Fest happens the last of the Fog Fest here in Pacifica.
These activities and games provide a way for people to communicate and interact positively, which has become especially important and rare during these last two years. Our games are played simply for the fun of it. There are no prizes to win, or opponents to beat - we are playing together!
We are looking for leaders to facilitate the play during this event. This leadership opportunity includes a comprehensive training (on both September 24 and 25), practical experience through play, and ton of fun!
The training is a way to develop your skills, prepare for the event and gather valuable experience and resources on how to lead and play games for all ages and empower your community. This opportunity may also be eligible for academic or volunteer hours at your school!
If this interests you, visit this link to register starting August 15! Registration cost is $30.

Citizens Environmental Council
Free Program Tells How to Become Plastic Free
| |
|
Did you know that the amount of plastic recycled in the U.S. decreased from 9 percent in 2018 to less than 6 percent in 2021? Plastic is made from raw materials obtained by fracking, it pollutes our environment, and it’s become so ubiquitous that researchers have even found microplastic in human fetuses.
At a program called “How Can I Become More Plastic Free?” on Tuesday, September 13, Shirley Freriks will offer solutions for reducing and avoiding plastic waste. Presented by the Citizens Environmental Council, it will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Maple Meeting Room at the new Burlingame Community Center, 850 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame. Admission is free, but preregistration is required.

Let's chat road safety!
The City is doing a road safety evaluation of all Pacifica's roadways and would live to hear from you.
Using YOUR feedback, as well as data and information about collisions, speed, and traffic, City consultants Fehr & Peers will help staff to build a Local Road Safety Plan (Plan).
Why do we need a plan, though? What is it for?
The Plan will...
- describe safety concerns (that you helped us spot)
- identify improvements and projects for the City to work towards
-
AND, the Plan will allow the City to apply for State and Federal grants that could help fund these improvements! Yay for Pacifica!
Your input is valuable. Please send your concerns and comments about road safety to engineering@pacifica.gov.
We are taking comments until Friday, September 16, 2022. Thank you!

Upcoming Public Works Sanitary System Smoke Testing | |
|
At the end of September 2022, the City of Pacifica Department of Public Works (Wastewater Division) is planning on beginning “Smoke Testing” of the sanitary sewer system in the neighborhoods of Linda Mar, Pedro Point and Park Pacifica. Smoke Testing is a process used to detect cracks/connection issues in the sewer system where unwanted water is entering the City’s sewer system. These cracks/connection issues can either be in the City’s sewer system or a homeowners private lateral pipe that connects to the City’s sewer system. This water infiltration can cause the sewer system to fill up and contributes to overflows of untreated wastewater during storm events that is an environmental hazard to the community. Treating this additional water at the wastewater treatment plant is also very costly.
The smoke that is used in the testing is 100% nontoxic and nonhazardous. It is specifically formulated for this kind of testing and is not harmful to plants, animals or humans. It will not leave a residue and does not create a fire hazard. Both the City’s Police Department and North County Fire Department will be made aware of the areas and schedules once these are determined.
Residents who will be part of the smoke testing project will be notified in advance of the schedule and be provided instructions for preparation of their home for the testing. Following the smoke test, residents will be notified if defects are discovered in their private laterals. For further information, please contact Rey Mendez, Acting Collections System Manager, at 650-738-4660 or rmendez@pacifica.gov.
