Member Updates

USDA Forest Service

Jacqueline Emanuel accepted the position of Acting Associate Deputy Chief for National Forest System, effective June 29. She currently serves as Director for the National Partnership Office. She replaces Lisa Northrop, who has served in the position since March.

Patty Grantham accepted the position of Acting National Director for Fire and Aviation Management, effective July 1. She currently serves as Forest Supervisor on the Klamath National Forest in the Pacific Southwest Region. She replaces Shawna Legarza, who will retire June 30.

Healthy Trees, Healthy Lives - Montana Feature

In coordination with the Western Urban & Community Forestry (WUCF) Network, guest posts are featured on the WFLC website that highlight stories tying together human and tree health. The posts are provided by members of the WUCF network and are shared on social media with the hashtag #HealthyTreesHealthyLives.

Policy Update
The Great American Outdoors Act was debated and passed the Senate this month, now it moves to the House. CWSF members recently appeared in several wildfire hearings to describe the challenges of preparing for and actively fighting wildfires during the coronavirus pandemic. A transportation bill that provides money to the USDA Forest Service for road maintenance and grants to improve access to forest facilities has moved to the House for consideration.

2021 Wildfire Mitigation Awards

The Wildfire Mitigation Awards are the highest national honor one can receive for outstanding work and significant program impact in wildfire preparedness and mitigation.
The program was established in 2014 by the National Association of State Foresters, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the National Fire Protection Association, and the USDA Forest Service.

All nominations for 2021 Wildfire Mitigation Awards  must be  submitted  by November 13, 2020.  Learn more and submit nominations .
