Organizational Highlights
Forest Utilization Network - Request for Proposals
The Council of Western State Foresters' (CWSF) Forest Utilization Network requests proposals from qualified respondents to research, prepare, and present a written report and presentation format summary on wood wool cement products and wood fiber insulation.

Proposals must be submitted no later than 4:00 p.m. MDT on Friday, September 17, 2021.
FY 2022 LSR and WUI Grant Cycles

The fiscal year (FY) 2022 Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) Competitive Grant Program opened on August 5 and will close on October 29, 2021. FY 2022 materials, including a recording of the recent informational webinar, can be found on the WFLC website.

The FY 2022 Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Grant Program opened for applications on June 17 and will close on October 29, 2021. Additional information can be found on the CWSF website

Good Neighbor Authority Spotlight

The Western Forestry Leadership Coalition’s (WFLC) Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) Information and Resources webpage was recently updated with a new spotlight highlighting the Acorn and Shaver Springs GNA project - one of the first GNA agreements implemented in California. 

The GNA Information and Resources webpage, launched in March 2021, serves as a western repository of relevant, timely GNA resources for state forestry agencies, federal agencies, and partners. Featured resources are updated on an ongoing basis. 
Member and Partner Updates

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced that Pacific Southwest Regional Forester Randy Moore will serve as the 20th Chief of the USDA Forest Service.

Angela Coleman accepted the position of Associate Chief for the USDA Forest Service.

Jennifer Eberlien accepted the position of Regional Forester for the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region.

Policy Update
This month the Senate moved forward on the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (infrastructure bill). The bill provides new federal investments totaling $550 billion to improve America’s infrastructure over five years. FY 2022 appropriations is procedurally different this year and is currently working through the reconciliation process which was recently formally approved in both chambers.

Smokey Bear Award Nominations
The National Association of State Foresters, USDA Forest Service, and Ad Council have opened the nominations period for the 2022 Smokey Bear Awards. Nominations will be accepted until December 15, 2021.
 
Arbor Day Foundation - Reforestation Funding Opportunity
The Arbor Day Foundation is currently seeking proposals for 2021-2022 large-scale plantings that will positively impact the environment, create habitat for wildlife, promote watershed restoration, and provide other benefits to the public.

Interested individuals are encouraged to submit an online proposal by end of day September 24, 2021.
