Organizational Highlights

2022 CWSF/WFLC Fall Meeting

The 2022 Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) and Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) Fall Meetings will take place in Santa Fe, NM, from Tuesday, November 15 at 8:00 a.m. to Thursday, November 17 at 5:00 p.m. Registration will open in August and further details are forthcoming.



Please note that both meetings will take place in-person and that attendance is limited to CWSF State Foresters and their representatives, USDA Forest Service WFLC members, and invited partners. If you have any questions, please reach out to Patricia Payne.

Competitive Grants Timeline Update

The fiscal year (FY) 2022 Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) program will be open for applications soon. Visit the CWSF CWDG webpage or the USDA Forest Service CWDG webpage for more information. 


The FY 2023 Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) Competitive Grant Program will open in August 2022, more detail to come. Visit the WFLC website for more information.


The FY 2023 Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Grant Program will open for applications on October 5, 2022 and close on December 16, 2022. Additional information can be found on the CWSF website

Design Request for Proposals

CWSF is seeking to identify a contractor to design the upcoming True Cost of Wildfire report. The submission deadline is August 9, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. MDT.

Policy Update

This month saw a major announcement in the implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) aimed at assisting at-risk communities in planning for and mitigating wildfire risks. The CWDG program provides a historic amount of funding that can help communities better prepare for the increasing threat of wildfires seen across the western United States.
