Spotlight on U&CF - Nebraska

In Nebraska, the city of Bayard proudly wears its Tree City USA status because it didn’t come easily. In June 2017, two tornados touched down in and around the small city of 1,000 people, causing widespread damage to properties and trees.

This month’s committee blog post spotlights Bayard’s work to create a tree inventory, develop an emerald ash borer community response template, and replace the community’s lost trees.

Policy Update

The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2021 moves to the Senate after passage in the House this month. Implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) continues as the U.S. Department of the Interior provides an update on programs to support wildland firefighters and to increase efforts to reduce wildfire risk. The Joint Chiefs’ Landscape Restoration Partnership, codified in the BIL and administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and USDA Forest Service, began the fiscal year 2023 proposal process.
