Last day of school and work for DBCR
School Year Is Almost Over
What a year 2020 has turned out to be! As we are feeling the impacts of COVID-19, it’s more important than ever to see the bright spots of hope and encouragement in our words. This edition is dedicated to the accomplishments of our seniors and to the dedication of our supervisors and partners.
Congratulations Class of 2020!
On Tuesday, May 5th we had a virtual College Signing Day. With all the uncertainty of what the future holds, there are a number of bright and positive futures, 99 to be exact, for our Class of 2020. Thus far:
66 seniors committed to a 4-year college/university (Seton Hall, LaSalle University, Radford University, Grambling State University, Virginia Tech, Penn State to name a few)
2 students currently awarded a full ride
Scholarships Awarded: $4.92 million.
2 students committed to the Air Force and Marine Corps
Please join us as we congratulate our seniors for their hard work and perseverance during a time of tumult. They proved to their families, DBCR community, and most importantly, themselves that they can do anything under any situation!
The seniors last day is Friday, May 20th and we are both sad that they are leaving but excited to see where their next chapter leads them. We wish them the best and hope we will be able to come together and celebrate them one last time before they head off to college.
Supervisor Love
We would also like to honor and celebrate our partners and supervisors. A HUGE thank you for all the inquiries about our students. We are all stressed and learning each day how far we can be pushed but your love and commitment to our students show no boundaries. Your emails and messages have meant a great deal to them and has helped them get through this difficult time.
With that said, we have a little advice: Be gentle with yourself. You are not alone. You can do it. We support you! (DBCR 2019-2020 Motto) Sage words if we do say so ourselves. We look forward to the Fall* and I am sure you are looking forward to seeing your students again too.
* Does your student worker have a key fob, laptop, or other company issued item? Please email your placement specialist (Tania Argueta, Enrique Guzman, or Rebekah Taravella) to ensure items are collected and returned.Seniors will be cleaning lockers out on May 21st and May 22nd. The rest of the school will clean their lockers the week of June 8th.
We had our first Supervisor Coffee Check-in on Thursday, April 30th. It was so great to see and hear from all of those who participated. For those who were unable to meet up please click hereto watch our recording.
The next virtual check-in is scheduled for June 4th at 10:00 am. RSVP to Gelynn Hurtto ensure you get the meeting link.
What Have We Learned?
DBCR students can handle anything that is thrown at them! From virtual learning and telework with NO breaks from in-class instruction to online platforms,to persevering in the most strenuous of times. This is to say – never fear what you give them. They are resilient, problem-solvers, and will shine bright when challenged.
Here are some of the skills our students have been learning and mastering these last few months:
Versatility
Email etiquette
Microsoft Word and Excel
Time management
All skills that will add value to their jobs when they return.
